Those had better be empty casings.
And who puts tritium sights on a revolver? Revolvers are backup weapons at BEST.
Heh.
1.) It's a fiber optic sight, red ramp sights kill my eyes.
2.) It's a damn .454 casull, it's intended for hunting large alaskan game. It has more muzzle energy than an AK47, but far better penetration characteristics. 100 yard shots are a breeze with absolutely 0 drop off, and 200 yards is very possible with optics. It was the most powerful commercial handgun cartridge until the .500S&W magnum was introduced.
It also uses small rifle magnum primers and rifle powders. It's basically a straight walled rifle round. Been loading em for awhile. :P
I bet a bear will think "back up weapon" when he's mounted on my wall.
And yes, as you would imagine, the recoil is unbelievable.

They also serve as show purposes. They are not, however, decent hunting tools. I've no doubt that you can kill a bear with a .454 casull easily, it is a hell of a round, the problem is you want to kill the bear in _one_ shot.
A task which even a simple .223 rifle is much more suited for.
I'd even go so far as to say that a 9mm carbine is a more suitable hunting weapon. They don't need to blow a hole in the target, they just need to hit it. Bears aren't bulletproof.

Hahaha, a .223 would do good to get through a bear's skin. A .454 casull with a corbon 360gr FN penetrator can go through 35 inches of dense muscle and bone. That's more than enough to drop a bear in 1 shot provided you placed it correctly. Which is going to be a deciding factor no matter what you hit it with.
If a .30-06 isn't even enough to get through their bone, a measly .223 surely isn't.
And bear's skin is much like Kevlar, a 9mm wouldn't even penetrate it far enough to injure it.

Precisely, placement is the key here. Not power.
You kill humans with power, you hunt with finesse.
That isn't to say intentionally hunting with a light round is a good idea of course. .300 win mag or .30-06 are more than suitable for the smaller bears.

Exactly, but you fail to understand exactly how dense their muscle tissue is.
It's like armor plating, honestly.
Unless you've got something that's moving very fast and is carrying a lot of weight with it, it'll lose all of its punch within about the 1st 2 to 3 inches of penetration.
And you have the concept partially in place. You kill humans with velocity and you kill animals with bullet weight. Against a human, you want the biggest, lightest, fastest moving bullet possible. (With a hollow point, the size doesn't necessarily matter, just that it's at sufficient velocity to expand to the designer's specs.)
Exactly, but you fail to understand exactly how dense their muscle tissue is.

Yeah, amended that post. My point is less about the round and more about the delivery system. IE pistol vs rifle.

And against a bear, nothing beats a 12gauge sabot, anyway.
It's pretty much the perfect hunting tool, you just have to be moderately close. (+/-100yards)
Funny thing about a .454 is, it can match the bullet weight of a 12gauge slug, and almost get it going as fast.

Damn! I knew .454 was big, but I didn't know it was that large.
Yeah agreed, a good slug gun with a rifled barrel and sabot shells reigns supreme there.
EDIT: We are off topic. We should stop.
Here's just how big it is. This is only with a punny 250gr bullet as well. It's sitting on top of 32grs of winchester 296. Good for around 1850-1900fps from my gun. With a 240gr bullet, I have some loading data for 2100fps.

If only you knew what exactly was in this room, ahhaahhaha.
If I cock the hammer half way back and let go of it, it won't go off.
If I drop it on the hammer it still won't go off.
And the double action trigger pull is 12 lbs so you're not pulling that trigger unless you are trying. It's designed pretty ingeniously.
Doesn't matter if it's loaded or not, it's just as safe either way and should be treated in the same manner either way. So I figure what's the point of leaving it unloaded if I'm going to treat it with respect regardlessly? That's actually how I taught myself proper gun safety; 15 years of shooting guns and being around them and never even a close call yet. That's probably longer than you've been alive.

If that was a beer can at the bottom of the screen, you'd earn 9001 internets.

And just some information to the gun-o-phobes, I don't leave my guns around if I plan on drinking. (Not that I'm the type to get tanked anyway) I may be stupid but I'm not that stupid. That's like driving drunk.

All that trouble getting no mounted front iron sights and you still have to mount the damn scope on a carry handle?

yeah, I'm thinking about taking the carring handle off, but i hunted the first 2 days of deer season with it and I liked it. Pain in the ass to sight it in like that though.
