Thinking about getting a keltec SU-16C, anyone have one or have any opinions on them?

I've heard only good things about Kel-Tec.

If the Sub2k is any indicator it will be an extremely reliable, innovative gun with slightly lower quality externals (mostly cosmetic like visible seams and whatnot)

Same as Hi-Point. People bitch because they're cheap, but they don't realize that they are very reliable, and have a lifetime no questions asked warranty...

Ew, they are so ugly. I don;t anything else about them though. I like the Hi-points though

I dont have any issue with them being cheap, I have an issue with their reputation for not being reliable or ergonomic.
Obviously you as an owner of one can say they are in fact reliable but thats not really going to change my opinion, mostly because the majority of people would say they aren't reliable. And especially as a cheap gun, there is a pretty high chance that quality control isn't exactly consistent. One gun might do fine and another might be a lemon.
A no questions asked warranty isnt really going to help much if the thing jams in a self defense situation.

HP makes a quality weapon. Over 1000 rounds (Of Winchester 45ACP) and no jam or FTF. I don't understand what all the bitching is about over Hi-Points.

Sure it doesn't help in a self defense situation, but I've fired the hell out of this thing and it's excellent. The only complaint is that racking the round is a little stiffer than most other weapons, but that isn't a big deal.
Who is "the majority?" Everything I have read says they're great. Maybe you're thinking of carbine's, or another caliber than the 45?

Mostly people Ive talked to locally who have many more years experience than I with firearms. Ive been told time and time again that if you really need a handgun and cant afford a good one, you should look for reliability are the primary attribute.
Thus most people I know would recommend something east European or Russian (Makarovs, CZ-Xes, etc) over a Hi point as a cheap gun any day of the week.
Plus I the one time I used a Hi point (9mm mind you) all I remember was it being heavy, cheap feeling, and having way more kick than a 9mm should. Ive been told this is due to the slide being extremely thick to compensate for poor building materials.

Regarding the kick, my 45 kicks like a 9mm. There's some kind of heavy spring or recoil reducer or something, not too sure. Maybe someone else knows?
Cheapy feeling is the plastic grip, it's just polymer, nothing to worry about. Either way, I have a Yugo Tokarev as well as a bedside weapon. Maybe that's a better choice? I'd trust a laser sight though for 3am when my door's kicked in... point the laser and unload.

Im sure they have massive recoil springs to actuate that monster of a slide, but that can also throw your accuracy off pretty badly.
With some consideration and online reading I can pretty much come to the conclusion that they are pretty primitive and cheap but are at least better than not having a gun at all.
[editline]20th December 2011[/editline]
I still say you would do way better with a Bulgarian Makarov for the price though
Guys what's with all the arguing over inexpensive handguns... we all know that Black Powder Revolvers are the only way to go.
Speaking of which there are blisters on the meat of my hand from fan firing my buddies SAA so much yesterday
Revolvers are the tits

I have great groupings with mine. 15 feet away and I have all kill shots while emptying a mag... groupings are silver dollar sized or smaller. 15 feet is all you really need for home defense.
Hi-points aren't bad; They get damn good groupings and are pretty reliable, but fuck they're heavy and have awkward balancing. The thumb safety is also really annoying.
Carbine's pretty nice though, but it's within the price range of the sub 2000, so it just comes down to ergonomic preference and/or whether you see folding and glock mag compatibility a worthy enough advantage.
I think Hi Points are great for a first pistol, my friend bought one (40S&W) for $180, brand new. I don't think we've had it jam once yet and have fired over 600 rounds through it. Came with an alternate ghost sight too.

Yeah I was curious about the carbines. I've held them at gun shows but never really thought of getting one. Don't the shells eject to the left? There was something weird about them if I remember right.
Yay, just put mt firearms licence application in, now all I ahve to do is wait a month for my background check and do my "firearms safety course"
Welp, took that old revolver to a gunsmith
And he lost it
fuck

WHAT!?
I'd be raising fucking hell. If he doesn't seem interested in helping you, suggest to him that the BATFE would not take kindly to someone misplacing a firearm. That's their job.

Yeah well I did. I'm rather unhappy at the moment but I don't think I can do anything.
I took it to a guy I've never been to before. I gave it to him yesterday and he told me to come back today. Before he would even touch it he made me sign a forum about the legality of him possessing it and shite. One of the things was if the weapon was 'lost or damaged' I would be entitled for 200$ compensation and nothing more.
Well, today I went by, the fatfuck went into the back room for five minutes, gruelingly told me my revolver was 'misplaced', gave me a check for 200$ and told me to leave. And because I signed that damn forum I don't think I can do much else than avoid him
That sounds kinda fishy, as in he just kept it because it was valuable and was going to sell it himself.
I'm thinking of filing a police report. I have pictures of the serial number that was on the inside behind the grips and with the signed agreement from the gunsmith guy I think I can prove the pistol is mine.
But I didn't have it registered to my name yet, that's whats worrying me. I'm not if it's even registered with anyone. This could get tricky
Theres no way in hell he could have lost it in a day.
I'd take this further this further if I were you, if that pistol manages to recirculate you could get in trouble.

Well at least it was a shitty gun.
I really doubt that revolver was worth more than $100 at most

Do it. He "lost" the gun. He didn't actually lose it.

File a police report and let the ATF know. THIS is the sort of stuff they are supposed to be looking into. What state are you in?
Ew, they are so ugly. I don;t anything else about them though. I like the Hi-points though
High-points are basically made out of crap metal(basically the same stuff they use to make theater guns or gas pistols), The size of the components are the thing which keeps the gun from exploding. They're okay guns considering how cheap they are, However most of the C9s have a faulty design which causes some guns just malfunction when feeding ammunation. If you're getting one make sure to file the feeding ramp a bit or modify the magazine lips.

May be true, but the 45 works great and I trust it with my life.

I just said its a good gun, Expecially if you ignore the ugly looks and if you work the gun in. The only real thing i dislike about it is the fact that it isn't a well balanced gun and supposely it doesn't fit most of the holsters because of it design, So having it on your right leg wouldn't be an option. Most likely you'd have to fit it in a rifle magazine pocket, and that's not ideal for example, You can't pull the gun out effectively as a secondary, it's constantly wobbling around and its not safe to rapel with it hanging like that.
But for then again, It's a 120$ gun.

$120? Mine was $250, but it's a 45 not a 9mm.
