They're earmuffs with batteries. You can hear normal sounds just fine, but they flick off the microphone as soon as it detects a sharp, quick sound.

Looks like you're... compensating for something.
Horrid finish?
More like a decent color hardening
Good color hardening:

Shot my Nagant for the first time finally.
Ow.
Actually went to a range this time with paper targets instead of dicking around with popcans in my buddy's ranch. Got pretty decent groupings with about everything I fired.
Anybody need some moon clips for their 1911?
What model?
I shot an M44 and the recoil really isn't that bad
A Springfield?

Is that the same scope as the springfield in this picture? I kind of laughed to myself when I saw that it goes practically all the way to the end of the barrel ingame.

Did you not read what I said about it being an Unertl scope? the originals were used in WWII and Vietnam.
Heres one in action with an 84 year old WWII sniper:

He shoots better than they do at 1000 yds
They don't make 'em like they used to!
Okay, i know a lot of are going to kill me for this but, I have started to sand the varnish off of my M44's stock, it is going a very light brown colour instead of the normal red that it was.
The stock that i am sanding was the Laminated one they put on the rifle in the 50's so it's not the original stock anyway.
Fuck... i ran out of sand paper as i got to the butt... well i needed some fine stuff anyway.

What is a good rifle to get for under $200?
I'm looking for preferably WW2 era, but later is OK. A Mosin is my preferable choice but if you can find K98s or Lee Enfields for that price then even better.
Holy shit found a Mosin unused, still packed, for $85.

I've seen some cheat M1 Carbines. Albeit, they still make the carbine, it was invented in WWII.

You aren't going to find a better rifle for under $200; K98s, Enfields and 1903 Springfields are all $300 and up. Only one I can think of in the same price range as a Mosin is an Arisaka which is neither a good rifle, nor is the ammo easy to find. if you want a quality mosin, be prepared to spend over $100; the cheaper ones can be pretty beat. Make sure you like how the bolt and trigger feel, some of them are messed up.

You wrong hater.
Arisakas (at least 7.7 version) I'd say was one of the top 3 bolt actions of WW2.
The Japs took a great Mauser action and make it better.
But really the pros and cons of all the respective bolt actions of countries were pretty damn minor. You could almost generalize and say they were all the same effectiveness/quality. (possibly excluding the Enfield as being better than the rest)
Uhm
If the Enfield was better, then why do nearly all modern actions in some way build on the M98 action?
Apparently smoother/faster action (wouldn't know never fired one) and a 10 rnd mag.
I do see what you're saying though from a modern hunting rifle, precision rifle stand point
Even though during WWII, Bolt Actions were outclassed by fully automatic weaponry, submachineguns, and semi-automatic rifles.
Just saying
And why an Enfield? .303 British is usually pretty expensive, 7,62 soviet is really cheap if you buy bulk.
Actually depends were you live, 7.62 is quite expensive here while 303 is cheap enough.

Blargh, forgot about the 7.7mm version, the 6.5 on the other hand, SUCKED.

Not really. You seem to like exaggerating.
6.5x50mm offered quite low recoil and the rifles that it were chambered for were essentially Mauser actions like the Type 99 is.
The Japanese army felt they needed a more powerful round so they started the transition to the 7.7 and the shorter Type 99 rifle.
