What do people here say about lever actions? I was thinking about getting a Marlin 1895 in .454 Casull, .45-70 or .444 Marlin. The idea is that I could use it too shoot anything in Australia from kangaroos and deer, all the way to small water buffalo (the biggest thing in Australia). My intention is it to be a carbine with a 16-18 inch barrel So what experience does anyone here have?
Buy one in 44mag. or 45-70. The 44mag would be cheaper and easier to handle, but the 45-70 has the stopping power.
by wont chamber rounds i mean the spring in the mag is broken so they just sit there :v: not too catastrophic afaik
You better get that spring fixed, man. It may not be a problem now, but later on, it will just get worse, and more expensive to fix.
You better get that spring fixed, man. It may not be a problem now, but later on, it will just get worse, and more expensive to fix.
Lol how can a broken spring get worse? Catch fire?
Buy one in 44mag. or 45-70. I would prefer the more powerful cartridge, and if it is too much I can always down load the cartridges to 44 mag level
This may sound like a bit of a dumb question, but what are the odds of firing http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=244309701#PIC this in .38?
Man I love gun-broker, looking at all those cheap and interesting guns I will never have.
If any Ontarians were thinking of doing anything relating to guns, the CFO for Ontario is just blitzing through stuff right now, a week and a half for an application (from minor's permit up to RPAL) and a day and a half for ownership transfer and STATT from a dealer.

Apparently the Alberta CFO is like that all the time.
Alright, what do you guys know about optics? I just got myself a new T/C Venture and I'm looking for a good scope to put on there. I've never really shopped for / looked into optics much so I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. I've heard brands such as Leupold, Zeiss and Nikon are the things to look at... but hell, even the entry level Zeiss scopes cost more than the rifle did. I'd say price range is $2-300 dollars. I was looking at this one. Thoughts?
I got monthly gun magazine reviewing hunting rifles, shotguns, and optics. Try the Burris Fullfield E1 4.5-14x42 scope. It got the "Great Buy" award for the year by being around $350.

I looked at some shitty $50 ones on amazon but I'd rather buy something more expensive than buy the same thing 4 times.
Are you talking red dots or scopes?
Either I guess, though I imagine a scope is far more practical.
Buy one in 44mag. or 45-70. A lever gun 454 Casull could be a reasonable compromise between the monstrous power of 45-70 and the handling of the 44 mag. It's going to have more in common with the 44 Magnum if anything.
my dads been using Leupold his whole life, cant complain. Lolspidersescapingfactory ;_;
All the guns I have at the moment minus other toys that are not photogenic, I have a friend from Serbia coming over some time this week, he's bringing some interesting stuff too, I'm probably going to end up broke again by Monday, and hungover. I've inherited some of the muzzle loaders, really beautiful works of art, they have really nice silver engravings.
What is that fullstock rifle? [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] The ironsights reminds me of either a modern Mauser or a Blaser
My dad has the mechanisms to a Flintlock rifle. He said "I don't know what to do with it, but I know it's old" 1824. He put it in his gun-safe, so I'd have to ask to see it.
that is one dicking long barrel for a .22
It's accurate as fuck at 200 yards too.
yeah just send me the tokarev and nagant bro, i'll give you my paypal so you can send me the money for taking care of them :-)
I don't get it.
I fucking want a tt33 :(
So buy one, they're cheap.
I fucking want a tt33 :(
$200 around here for one, very easily accessible, and the cheapest pistol that's not .22 that I've been able to find. With 2280 rounds of military surplus steel-core FMJ it's $540 after taxes. This is for an original one too, not a reproduction, and dated 1943, with no safety (none of these Chinese or Yugo safeties for American import crap).

There's another Polish one under $200, forget the name.
CZ-58's are cheap. There's another Polish one under $200, forget the name.
CZ-58s are AK clone rifles, though, and banned in Canada. There are also no CZ pistols for less than ~$600 that I can find (or bother looking hard for ATM). As for Polish, there don't tend to be many Polish guns in Canada. The only one I know of in recent circulation is an Uzi clone, and the only other one I could think that would be found is the Vis wz. 35, and those run upwards of a few thousand around here now.

Shoots 9x18. And we were talking handguns.
CZ-75 then. Shoots 9x18. And we were talking handguns.
And because we were talking handguns is why I mentioned you mentioned a rifle. Also, the Uzi clone from Poland is legally classified as a pistol in Canada. The CZ-75 is about $700 here, $500 more than the TT-33, and just about $200 more than it with a 10-year's* supply of ammo. Also, the CZ-75 shoots 9x19 Luger or .40S&W commonly.

P64 is banned in Canada, too short of a barrel. Same with the CZ. I hope for Prussel's sake there's no barrel restrictions on guns in Norway. Those seem like awesome, cheap prices, but a 106mm barrel length minimum prohibits me from ever getting them into this country.
