How practical is a carbine that shoots pistol calibers? I've been looking at Hi-Point rifles. They come in 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP.
anything shooting handgun calibre rounds that aren't a handgun, SMG or PDF = no-go get your AR-7s and keltecs outta here
So MP5, Thompson, PPSH, they're all shit?
So I should just oil the slide on the 870, pump it a bit to get it running and make it used to cartridges, and just make the break get a bit smooth by simply using it a lot in the start eh? I sure wonder when the fuck I'm gonna get the guns, bloody hunting course might not start before January :(((((
Something you could do to help both, and get you used to how they work as well, is get some dummy rounds with a spring in them. That way, you can get used to the trigger on them as well, and the gun's action has something to hit rather than thin air. Cycle them a few times to get used to the pump and/or the force you need to apply to break or close, which also requires a fair bit of quick force, the break-action. If the break has an auto-ejector for spent casings, using the spring dummies may even give you an idea of how far the ejector is going to throw the shells, or even just if the ejector works.

I kinda want to get a Berreta CX4 Storm. My dad's friend has one and I love it.
How practical is a carbine that shoots pistol calibers? I've been looking at Hi-Point rifles. They come in 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP.
For stuff like Home Defense and fun? Actually very good in my minds eye. If I were to find an decent quality Hi-Point or Kel-Tec Sub2000 I'd buy it without batting an eye. Money well spent. Hi-Points in 9mm seem to be where its at in terms of cheapest of the cheap budget, they got some pretty snazzy 15 round magazines available for them (opposed to the rather hit and miss standard 10 rounders).
9mm against people hehe, good one
What's wrong with 9mm? there are different cartridges, what is it? Parabellum, ect?
parabellum, nato, para and others are just different names exactly same round [editline]21st August 2011[/editline] (9x19) [editline]21st August 2011[/editline] Synonyms 9×19 9 mm 9 mm Luger 9 mm NATO 9×19mm 9×19mm NATO 9 mm Parabellum 9 mm Para
Uhhm, I think you forgot one 9mm UZI, but are there other 9mm cartridges besides Parabellum?
When I say "9mm" I'm talking about the 9x19 Not the 9x18 or whatever and uh.. the "9mm Uzi" isn't a round.. it's just that several Uzi models are available in 9x19.
Well, I heard people calling a round the UZI's fire 9mm UZI, which is sorta pointless, because it still would be 9x19 Parabellum. Well, lets just not argue over pistol cartridges then. [editline]20th August 2011[/editline] Back to my original question though, why not use 9mm Parabellum against humans?
So pistol rounds are ineffective?
Good lord the 7.62x25 is powerful, especially the steel core milsurp. It's technically not armor piercing, but I don't think there's any body armor you could get easily that would stop it.
9mm is useless 10mm is just as useless but with the price of a .45 .40 is just as useless but with the price of a .45 and has a tendency to make glocks go boom
PLEASE tell me you're joking... Please......
Here we go, might as well be on /k/. "lol its okay, i just got shot with 9mm, let me just get up and wipe the blood from my wound, no big deal" No, you just got fucking shot. It doesn't matter if it was from a .22lr or a fucking .50 BMG, its going to hurt like fuck and you're not going to want to keep doing whatever you were doing. Now, not that I would trust a .22lr to defend my life, but if I got shot I know I wouldn't be having a good day.
Well, got my first gun yesterday, a Winchester 190, fired it off a lot just trying to get used to rifles since I have to wait 6 months (21st birthday) to get a handgun (I'm wanting to get me a small 22LR pistol or revolver to start with, something bigger if I ever get around to it) in my state. It's alright. Today my dad and I went to wal-mart to grabs stuff for a quick dinner and we got some ammunition, 325 federal 22LR rounds for my rifle and then he got a box of 12 gauge shells. I was like, what? Well when we get home he hands me this: Maverick 88, police issue. "Clean it, and go fire a shot." Hell of a kick, only the second gun I've ever fired. Shot a single Winchester Xpert 2 3/4 shell (steel shot), and I have to say, that's a pretty fucking awesome gun, even though I don't like shotguns. For being the second gun I've ever fired (the rifle is the first), I think it's a bit of a steep step up, haha. Anyways. I'm a car guy. Conker showed me the thread and I thought I'd contribute. [editline]21st August 2011[/editline] Also I took a video of my dad shooting it, not too interesting but it's definately loud.
Regarding my carbine shooting pistol caliber comment, I need a semi auto rifle for when shit hits the fan. The way the world is shaping up these days, it never hurts to be ready for war, right? Better to be safe than sorry. I can get an AK for $370, but it only takes 10rd single stack mag's. Is that practical?
no but those 3 aren't optimal a .45, 9x18, .357 sig or 7,62x25 is better in every way
Wow fanboy much.
9mm is useless 10mm is just as useless but with the price of a .45 .40 is just as useless but with the price of a .45 and has a tendency to make glocks go boom
Better notify the US military and 95% of police officers in the US that their guns are useless, then. If you want a hi cap pistol caliber carbine, I recommend getting a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 that takes Glock mags. Then you can use 33rd G18 magazines.
anything shooting handgun calibre rounds that aren't a handgun, SMG or PDF = no-go get your AR-7s and keltecs outta here
no truefact: 9mm para out of this things 16in barrel gets identical muzzle energies to that of a .357 mag. Combine with hollow points: slaying bodies good to go. People who say 9mm is useless are pretty ignorant TBH. But yeah as for pistol caliber carbines in general are really nice since they are cheap as chips to shoot, have low recoil (but still enough to be fun), but are more accurate than a pistol, and by no means bad for home defense. As for the Sub2k... PROS -EXTREMELY simple internally and stupidly easy to field strip and clean -It uses easy to find mags from handguns (Mine uses glawk mags) -I personally can quite consistently knock down bowling pins at 100 yards with it, so its pretty darn accurate for its size -IT FUCKING FOLDS IN HALF (And can go from folded to ready to shoot in less than a second) -Wont blow your eardrums out if you fire it indoors for self-defense CONS: -Trigger is kinda spongy, but gets better over time -Sights are mediocre (Mounting optics is a breeze, but...) -Mounting optics prevents folding (unless you buy one of those shitty folding mounts) -Bolt pull is annoyingly difficult I would still highly recommend one to anybody though.

I have only shot a 22. Rifle and a 9mm Pistol. Ive always wanted to own an AKS-74. Also: Sexy Assault Rifle, A Fedorov Avtomat.
.303 british and the lee enfield are fun as hell to shoot
.303 british and the lee enfield are fun as hell to shoot
You mean the Lee Enfield in .303 British is fun to shoot.
You mean the Lee Enfield in .303 British is fun to shoot.
I fired an SMLE MK III once, or at least I'm thinking it was a MK III. It's a fun gun to shoot.
Why do people make the recoil of nagants sound so incredibly bad? I've shot an M44 and the recoil is nothing worse than a silenced .308 firing surplus 7,62x51.
Because people are pussies.
You mean the Lee Enfield in .303 British is fun to shoot.
same shit
Just ordered this!!!!! http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/229/products_id/60428
Doesn't look too bad. I don't think you'll be able to put a standard stock and grip on it, though. And the dust cover isn't a great place to put an optic because it's loose. But it should make a good basic shooter.
That's.. pretty ugly, actually Does it support side mounted attachments?
Looks pretty sexy to me. Not sure about the side mounted attachments. I'll find out when I get it. If not, my friend can help me hack it up. I guess I'll call the gunsmith about converting to double stack mag's.
