I'd like to see an SKS with a non-detachable, metallic 20-round magazine, loaded with clips. Just an expansion of the original design.

Yes, because detachable magazine are for filthy capitalists.
Yes, because detachable magazine are for filthy capitalists.
Prusselusken inbound.
Jokes aside, WW2 era rifles that sported detachable mags rarely used this feature to reload them. The preferred method to reload an SVT-40 or an SMLE was to open the bolt and squish boolits into the mag without removing it. Ruski soldiers with SVTs carried the same clips the ones with Nuggets did, and the Brits never took advantage of the fact you could take off the Smelly's mag rather quickly. So i'd figure, even if the SKS were to sport a larger magazine, they still would have reloaded it with a pair of clips instead of carrying around a bunch of pre-loaded, detachable magazines.

Besides, I never could use stripper clips that well, switching mags was faster.
I don't get why people freak out about Tapco so much. Sure, it might not look as good as original parts, but it increases the functionality.
I don't get why people freak out about Tapco so much. Sure, it might not look as good as original parts, but it increases the functionality.
I agree to an extent. People who get their entire SKS all tapco'd out for the tatic00l features are a bit silly. But as far as magazine extensions goes I think its fine.
Yeah, that's what I mean. If I ever get an AK (which I definitely will), I won't put rails on it or have some dumb tacticool stock or pistol grip, but I may have, say, waffle mags. It's not that big of a deal. If it's cheaper/easier to find, I'm good with it.

I don't know if it has something to do with 922r compliance or not, but whatever. I go shooting Monday, where I'll be pitting it up against my uncle's AR-15 in 5.56 at 200 yards. As long as it functions properly I will be a happy man. First, I need to buy ammo for the damn thing. All the supermarkets around here only sell 7.62x39 and the nearest ammo store is 45 minutes away with jacked all to fuck prices. Almost wishing I got a AKM 47 by now.

From SCP thread. Waiting for corrections and opinions from Prusse.
I prefer wood on guns that I plan to collect and shoot at the range only. If I am using it out in the woods and it is getting banged up all the time I want it to be plastic. I mean my main gun out at moose camp is a Winchester .338 win mag, all wood. And I feel bad because it is all jacked up from use. But I keep every moving surface to a mirror polish, the bolt feels and moves like glass. I used a plastic .338 (the same one in the video I put in my last post.) And I loved it for how rugged it was and how lightweight. I hate to see plastic parts on classic rifles but for some it is just a preference.
I really want a krag :o)
I have two :v:
