Misinformed most of the time.
I haven't been to the range in forever, apparently they are building a 1000yard range too. and an indoor range possibly, shits getting real son [editline]11th October 2011[/editline]
Who are you?
i may be c0nk3rs alt but probably not (User was permabanned for this post ("alt of clonker" - GunFox))
Ok guys everyone is calling everyone children when you all are acting like children. Not everyone is gonna agree with everyone's opinion of what a gun should look like. If some guy in here has a rail on his AK that is how he wants his gun to look, just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should bash him for it. It is his gun that he bought with his own money and if he wanted to paint it pink with sparkles then he should be able to. I get tired of hearing this tacticool bullshit all the time, it is a look that obviously a select few like so why not let them do it. If someone comes in here with an ak with 40 rails mounted on it and acts like it is the best AK in the world THEN I feel it is right to put him in his place. I am getting sick of this biased view on everything.
Hey, I'm going to get into the whole firearms scene, as if I'm not already, in January when I get my license and I'm wondering if there's any gun you guys would recommend as a first. I'm looking for a nice rifle to fool around with (preferably with milsurp ammo so I can get used to cleaning a gun but I may move on from that later) yet still has some kick to it. I'm currently thinking of getting a nice Russian SKS or Mosin-Nagant and I'm wondering if any of you have any other ideas on the subject.

An SKS is usually around $140 from what I've seen. If you wanted something more modern, but still cheap to shoot, .22 rifles are aplenty in all sorts of styles, and $20 will get you 500rds of decent .22 at WalMart. I know man, later on I want to convert it properly with this http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/hogue-monogrip-pistol-grip-for-ak-saiga-black-hogue-p-591.html and this http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/dph-arms-skeleton-stock-p-521.html But dad and I don't have the proper tools or space to do it at. It shoots good though, I love the gun.

It was a good rifle and I mainly got it because it has a similar action to the M1 garand and I loved that. It is chambered in .223 so it has a little kick, more than a .22LR for sure. I could hit a soda can at 150 yards easily with the irons sights so the accuracy was pretty good.

Personally(and biasedly) I'd go with a Nagant. Cheap gun, cheap ammo, built like a tank, kicks like a mule.

There are 2 places I'd recommend a fellow Ontarian, one of which you can actually go to, it's just north of Barrie; http://www.ellwoodepps.com/ and http://www.shop.tradeexcanada.com/ Epps is the one just north of Barrie, they've got a lot of old military stuff as well as some nice new and used sporters. Tradeex sells shit cheap, and with cheap shipping nationwide, but they don't have a vary large selection. Another option is find a LeBaron's store, there's a couple of them around, but they don't really have a website. Bass Pro tends to be expensive, I'd avoid it unless you hear about a sale. You could also check out some of the contributing dealers on CanadianGunNutz forums, they tend to have some interesting selections and at least one of them always has a sale on something. As for prices, a Nagant will run you $150 cheapest, plush taxes, from Tradeex. A Chinese SKS can be found from http://marstar.ca/ for $75 as long as you buy the $300 crate of Polish Milsurp ammo (1400 rounds). The SKS' ammo is more abundant and a bit cheaper, but most people tend to get a cheap .22 plinker as their first gun, because a brick of .22 (525 rounds) only costs $25, and the guns start at ~$100 and up. If you're looking for a pistol, though, for your RPAL (If you challenged restricted yet) you'll be looking for a fair bit more if you're looking for something of a higher calibre than .22. Most 9mm pistols are around the $500-$800 range, the cheapest you could get a pistol and ammo was when they got a fresh shipment of TT-33 pistols in, you could get the gun and 2280 rounds of Czech milsurp for ~$550, an amazing deal. Most of that, if not all of that, shipment has sold out my now though, so the price of the pistol ($199) may have gone up. The ammo crates are always around, Marstar has shittonnes of Russian calibre milsurp lying around. [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] I went looking for pics of Mosin Snipers, to compare the one Tradeex is selling to see how accurate the scope looks, and I found this: There is no WHY image that can accurately sum up the amount of WHY in this picture, this is absolutely disgusting.

I still think it looks ugly and stupid, and the recoil would probably break your damn wrist.

Mainly because .22 doesn't have that much kickback/recoil. If you immediately start using a nugget you could develop a flinch and that could be nasty.
Guys, I have a dilemma. I really would love a scope for my Nagant, but I would hate to put a rail on it, or even think about the horrors of anything plastic coming in contact with it. I looked up the price of an original Nagant scope/mount, and I'm decently sure I paid less for my CAR. Is there anyone out there that manufactures new scopes based on the original designs? There are so many people out there that own Nagants that it'd be strange for there not to be anyone making new scope mounts of this design, including the bent bolt:
guize, iz i bubba?
Wouldn't complain about this. This isn't a mix, except for the gun itself. It looks a bit off though :v:

Wait, you guys really never saw an Obrez until now?
What makes you think that?
Well, DaCommie's post made him sound surprised and disgusted in front of an Obrez. Either that, or he was commenting about the horrid Photoshop job.
That "Lock & Load with R Lee Ermery" programme has so much bias that I almost started crying. Of course your chinese AK copy has more recoil than your M16.
Dude its R Lee Ermey, hes more American that the entirety of congress put together. Of course he is biased :v: [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] Im also fairly confident that at 67 he could kill more commie scum than several divisions of infantry
From what I hear, it's about $500 for a good fake scope, mount, and bolt.
Well, shit. I don't necessarily want to spend five times as much for the scope as I did for the gun. I just don't understand why the entire layout as a whole seems to be so expensive, even as a reproduction. It seems fairly simple, looks like it has less parts than other layouts, and the scope is less accurate than most modern hunting scopes.
Whats all this talk about nuggets? [IMG_THUMB]http://u.cubeupload.com/EagleEye/mosinwithproperbutts.jpeg[/IMG_THUMB] itt: post your nuggets with manufacturer and year Tula, 1930.
*good info right here*
Thanks for all that, and yes I'm from Ontario. I've never heard of Ellwood so I'll check that out later tonight. However, I have looked at Marstar as well as Canadaammo and I seem to like some of the offers they have going on right now and most likely buy from there. However, for a pistol I was looking towards a 9mm as my first pistol so I can enter the wonderful world of reloading as well as the shooting crowd. I'm also hoping to get into reloading some rifle rounds but I've seen that they're a hassle because of brass deformation. Either way, I think that part of the scene is pretty interesting and would be great to get in to. On another note, is challenging the PAL/RPAL significantly difficult? I know a fair bit about firearms and I've looked over both manuals and I didn't find anything that struck me as new. I don't want to spend the money on the two courses if all I'm going to get is a lecture on what I already know. Also, I'm unsure if you're from Ontario or not but if you are: which range do you shoot at? I'm looking to go to Silverdale because it has great ranges as well as an archery range for me to practice archery (obviously) and its location isn't particularly far from Toronto.

I challenged the restricted, but took a course for the normal. The book only teaches you so much, the course lets you handle firearms and gives you practical experience with them as well as the theory. If you've handled them before, just challenge them, I made a lot of dumb mistakes on the restricted, but I still passed. I'm not positive, but I think you may have to take at least one of the courses. I know that Bass Pro and York Region Firearms Academy run courses and tests almost every weekend, but you could also look around for other sources, and double check if you have to do one, I'm not sure. The written test is easy for both, the practical for the PAL has a bit to do with the guns and ammo, and a bit to do with proper procedures of firearms handling when out in the wilderness. The RPAL's practical is all about handling restricteds in a range situation, as that's the only place you're supposed to be using them. Don't make the same mistake I did on the single-action revolver, half-cock lets you rotate the cylinder, if you get it to full cock (like I did) you're fucked for that gun, as you can't put your finger in the trigger guard during the test. Rifle rounds aren't that hard to reload, I know people who reload .303 and .308, but they don't bother with 9mm, I think mostly because they have some thousand rounds of it, but they do reload .45. You also have to watch out for the kind of primer, you can't reload corrosive ammo or steel-cased, and most old Russian/Czech crap is both. Like I said, though, the cheapest you're likely to find a 9mm is around $300, and that'll probably take a fair bit of looking, you're most likely looking in the range of $500.
Just acquired a bag of parachute flares, such craic was had. we even gave the odd "allah akbar!" when we fired them off,
