All I know is that hydrostatic shock from bullets tumbling in ya is desirable.
I know very little about guns, but... How can a round even tumble? Wouldn't that require some serious imperfections in the bullet?
There are so many things, some described in the post above, brought to you by the well-learned gentleman known as Ridge. The worst offenders are usually poor manufacturing, using the wrong bullets or having a powder load meant for a different rifling. Guns are fucking complicated, and basically we're all scientists in this thread.
Tumbling rounds you say?

Wrong twist rate for the projectile weight

I don't think you would :v:
Well, I'd rather have a hole, not some shredded mess in me :v:

Tumbling is caused by a lot of things including all the stuff listed above. One thing though is that it is not always the ammo's fault. Like on some of the Century Tantal's I have heard about with the wrong barrel size which can cause the round to shake around down the barrel and keyhole like in the picture. If I remember correctly those Tantals had barrels that were like 0.01 inch bigger in diameter than the round, don't quote me on that cause I'm not entirely sure. But ain't it amazing how much such a small number matters...
My unlce has a Tokarev TT-33 my grandfathers brother brought back from WWII and the bullets always tumble. We were shooting a paper target on plywood about 10ft away and the bullets were hitting sideways. It's still a cool gun though.

IIRC, the Century tantals were 5.45 ammunition with a 5.56 barrel.
Just wondering is it possible for you US guys to buy lets say "exotic" 12 bore shotgun ammunition, we can't have any legally over here, however we make home made ones, it's quite fun actually I use paper cartridges and small nails and a rubber wad, purely for "plinking" about though.
We can buy shells that have a 50 cal. round loaded into the shell, loaded with plastic shot, rubber shot, or a shell loaded with both bird shot and buck shot. Most of these rounds are available at guns shows though.
FINALLY found some old rounds my 'pa gave me.

2 1957 production .30 Carbine rounds
1 1953 production .30-06 round
1 ??? production what appears to be 12,7x75mm, I have no idea what this is. Anyone got a clue?
[editline]15th November 2011[/editline]
Apparently 12,7x76 spotter ammo. Huh.
Sure its not a BMG round?

You mean like these?

A local shop has both a Universal and a Plainfield M1 Carbine. $350 each
Considering picking one up. Is that a good deal for these?
They've seen better days, but I'd give the overall condition a solid 80-85%

Where is the cheapest USA seller online to get 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r?
So while taking apart my Enfield today I discovered that it is cut for a magazine cutoff.
However, the forestock currently on the rifle does not have the cut for it, and the cutoff is obviously not present.
[t]https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=f947df0255&view=att&th=133a87d07478db22&attid=0.1&disp=inline&zw[/t]
So I've come to 2 possible conclusions:
1) The magazine cutoff was removed and the gun restocked (at least once) either before or during it's FTR at Lithgow in 1952 --- Which seems likely considering the gun is almost 100 years old and it's unlikely the stock lasted through both World Wars
OR
2) The receivers were still cut for magazine cutoffs even after they were dispensed with
Does anyone here have any light they could shed on the subject?

You can't even legally own a BB gun in New York, let alone a shotgun.
You can't even legally own a BB gun in New York, let alone a shotgun.
What?
What?
New York is one of those full retard states when it comes to Gun laws.
Except last I checked that's just with handguns. They've expanded it to long guns aswell?

It's just a search engine that finds the best deals in ammo and certain rifle and compiles it in one site. Uh I think it depends where you buy from though and what state you live in and also what you buy. I know I can buy ammo where I live with nothing more than a handful of cash... most online stores have a page dedicated to telling you what to do in order to buy.

Last time I ordered ammo from AIM was November 08. They said they needed my driver's license to prove I was 18. I took a photo of my license with my digital camera and sent it in, that was good enough for Bryan.

Last I checked they're still practicing the Assault Weapons ban (nothing above 10 rounds etc) and you have to jump through all kinds of crazy hoops get a handgun.
It seems that is not the case I apologize and stand corrected for making a stupid comment.

Nope. You have teleport it.

Going whitetale hunting next weekend with a Winchester .356 rifle.
I don't recall what it's called (if it has a specific name) but I feel kind of honored to be using a gun that shoots ammunition that isn't in production anymore.
I felt like I was less worth when I was at school yesterday (gunsmith class), some guy came in with a 120 year old shotgun to show us. He had a crack in the stock because he had dropped it when falling on the ice while he was hunting. I'd never dare to use a one of a kind weapon like that, but I wouldn't mind having it either .
