Couple years back, shitty Penny-Arcade-ripoff gaming comic called Ctrl+Alt+Del decided to jump (in the course of literally four panels) from lolrandom character humor to angsty melodrama by having one of the main characters have a miscarriage. It came out of nowhere and was so out-of-place (and so badly done) that we're *still* making fun of it. It helped that the creator was a complete asshat whose response to feedback was usually funnier than his actual strips.
Ctrl+Alt+Del itself actually did start getting better, eventually, although it spent a few years in melodrama hell before the creator actually started listening to the people telling him it sucked. Whether or not it's actually good at this point is still up for debate.
