Yeah I like Cassandra's design direction as well. I think Sera is just supposed to be ugly, really.
Regardless, I don't think it's any worse than having a bunch of quasi-identical "pretty" faces with a different hair colour as female characters.

Sera is a pretty good archer though, she's killed enemies faster than Varric. Regardless the game itself is actually pretty good.

And in the later days of the rebellion they started recruiting from other species as well, so a Twi'lek stormtrooper isn't really unheard of either.

It only feels weird because other than Luke and Han, this is literally the first time we've ever seen a stormtrooper with his helmet off, in the main movies anyway, and clone troopers don't count. It's going to take some getting used to.
