I did two years of Japanese around 2002, and the only weeb-ish types showed up in Japanese 100 and didn't come back for the Spring semester (Japa 101) because it was way too much actual language study and not enough how-to-watch-unsubbed-anime-101. Joke's on them, once you learn how to read and write hiragana/katakana, Japanese becomes much more accessible. However, even the weebs didn't come to class dressed like weirdos, they just wanted to talk only anime if you asked them to talk about anything Japanese at all.
I think we can officially title this generation the Snowflake Generation.
