It all began because people insisted to have a '10 commandments' monument in the statehouse. There's such a thing called separation of church and state tho.. the official reason it is there is something like 'it inspires a certain set of values yadda yadda'
Then, for fairness, the satanic temple went forth and said well then, if that is ok, why not ours too? Satan surrounded by children, to inspire values too!

Lucifer is a latin adjective meaning "bringer of light" which has been applied by Christians to describe Satan and is now used interchangably as his name. In the Easter Proclomation, the word "lucifer" is actually used to describe Jesus.
I don't believe in any of that stuff anyway though.
