To be honest, Legend of Korra has never really been a "kids show". It has really complex (for the type of show it is) sociopolitical themes and a lot more stuff for young adults than kids

I've always felt weird when cartoons make me think or feel emotionally attached on any level. It's part of what's made me always have an aversion to most animes other than Bobobobobowhatever, which made little to no sense 99% of the time.

There's no honest way it's platonic, if anyone can seriously say that walking hand in hand while gazing at each other as you enter a spirit portal and hold each others hands and look up at each other lovingly with a smile on both their faces is platonic then kissing your bro on the lips is platonic. Best way to really end the argument is put Mako in the place of Asami, then instead of being platonic it's an ending (or beginning) to a love story. The bad thing about one's saying there's no build up kinda refuse anything that does hint at SOME build up. It was never explicitly state but a few moments of season 3 and 4 showed there was some sorta of mutual interest. There just wasn't enough more implied flirting that should've gone on between them, otherwise the ending seems forced or make no sense.
