What happened to tribes anyways? Did they shut it down?
No idea, I tried to download it and play it a while ago from steam but I couldn't get the damn thing to work

It was basically abandoned by hi-rez games in favor of their dota-style third person game. I never played tribes, but Smite is actually pretty good considering.
