at the risk of getting dumb ratings, i'll play devils advocate for this. (because that's part of my personal philosophy)
Some people understand things more when they see a familiar character in an environment they usually wouldn't understand, same with the picture of Jews during the night of broken glass with ponies in it, normally it would be somewhat difficult identifying with people in an unfamiliar circumstance, but when a character you already identify with is placed there, it becomes easier to understand the thoughts of the people in the original image.
while i don't necessarily agree entirely with what i am saying (because admittedly you are somewhat correct.) i think this provides an adequate defense for the other side.
