I think he meant the line closest to us flying out.
I'm guessing the side that was being hit out was putting pressure on the opposite side, so when the block fell and the pressure was released there was nothing holding the other line up.

That's simple. Both sides were propping each other up, so when you remove one, it relieves the pressure that was keeping the other side in tact.
