Basically, for anyone who wasn't following it, the beta for Tribes: Ascend had a bunch of weapons you could grind for or buy, but the base stuff was good for all occasions, and the stuff you could grind for was more like side-grades, tf2 style. Your standard spinfusers were okay, a lot of weapons carried inheritence (in other words, if you're going at 200km/h and fire a spinfuser, it's gonna hit at 400km/h, which is too fast to dodge unless your opponent is also going 200km/h). There were some hitscan weapons, which weren't too overpowered, although they could use some nerfing.
Come the game's actual release, the prices for everything went up, grinding for weapons became completely unfeasible, and basic equipment like spinfusers were relegated behind a paywall, meaning that everyone was left with shitty and un-fun weapons unless they wanted to pay for the good shit we had during beta.
Top it off with every update just adding more hitscan weapons which just wrecked any skill-based gameplay (Predicting spinfuser shots at high speed was one of the best feelings ever. Getting hit by a sniper rifle across the map was not) and Hi-Rez gradually slowing down updates as they focussed on their shitty Moba, and the game died a slow and painful death.
RIP, Tribes Ascend, you had the potential to be one of the greats.
