I don't really understand where that accusation even comes from. I can think of maybe two meme references in the entire game, one of which is just a challenge title.

It's still a valid criticism - BL2 is essentially the same game with a different map, even more annoying clap-trap tier characters, loads of unimaginative DLC and few pre-established epic memes as the cherry on top, and even a few of its own BRAND NEW memes for the kids like butt stallion! Epic! Oh, and more Aliens: Colonial Marines money to fund it than the first of course.

Hardly any of that even relates to that specific criticism for a start, second of all Anthony Burch didn't have anything to do with half of those complaints.

I'm not sure you've actually played Borderlands 2 because it plays significantly differently from the first game. Plus, you just insulted both Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage and Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, which are far from unimaginative and have some sincerely hilarious moments. Again, doesn't exactly sound like you've played the game.

Thinking your beloved videogame is shite doesn't mean I haven't played it.

I played the full campaign on PC and cringed through most of it, probably wouldn't of been able to finish it if i didn't co-op it with one of my mates. Played the DLC on 360 at a friends place. Tiny tina continued to be an annoying brat that somehow seemed worse than in the main campaign and mr torgue was just yelling and "he likes explosions and thats funny! epic!"
And the core game was still go in to area, kill the mens with your bullets, then spend 5 minutes staring at the ground looting and searching for guns, occasionally have some character yell at you over radio, and then you move to the next area just like BL1. Most bosses were boring bullet sponges just like BL1, although the bosses did seem to improve as i played.

What a shame, the dude's a really standup guy. The only thing i could think of in regards to people hating him is because of the character he plays in HAWP, a pretentious video gamer who considers games art and overly critiques them or reads too much into them at times. But his character on HAWP is literally a thicked up caricature of himself, while he did previously write articles for destructoid about videos games being art or overly analyzing things, they were far far less pretentious than he makes himself appear as in HAWP.
