They're nothing but masturbatory power fantasies focused on how the most ideal traits that define Humanity should be how scary or "batshit insane" we are while butchering everything in the way. I mean, even when the HFY isn't focused on how big our nuclear dicks are, it's dedicated to making every little aspect of Humanity out as some profound thing that is to be held in equal parts awe and fear; Like holy shit, they run under the assumption that aliens not only have no idea what a body is, but basic biology and evolution. The idea space-faring races will not know what saliva is, or what sweat is, or how some species breath oxygen and others drink alcohol or others waged wars in the name of religion (to say nothing of their own planets having such creatures/practices) is just asinine.
