2) the first gym is brock who has ground type pokemon

Blastoise can learn Ice Beam, basically meaning he can take out Venasaur or Charizard.
Charizard can learn Solar Beam, basically meaning he can take out Blastoise or Venasaur.
Venasaur can't learn any moves that can take out Charizard super effectively.

Or Charizard can learn the superior Fly for STAB. But to be honest, if we're nostalgia-ing about Gen1, back then it was all about what a Pokemon looked like and not about their power.

Bulbasaur is easy mode, man. Super effective on the first two gyms? A good starter choice for a [I]sissy-ass baby who poops in his baby-ass diaper,[/I] maybe.
I always picked Charmander, because he evolved into a kick-ass fire dragon. And the extra difficulty imposed by it made me the best Pokemoner who ever did Pokemon.
