I think it has always been like this. It's a matter of what's getting posted I guess.
Most of the good ones are usually about international affairs, so I'm guessing it's a bit relative to what's going on right now in the world.
They sometimes are historical, too, but there's only so many times you can do a joke about a historical event before going into obscure history nobody would understand.
