Dudes, the biggest problem with conscription is the fucking shit pay (I'm being paid $480 per month, Sergeants get like $800 and Officers get like $1000) and the fucking long time you spend being conscripted as a soldier/police officer/fireman.
Lol, 70€ pcm for the first three months (private), bumped up to ~90€ after that if you stay as a private. We sergeants got ~170€ If you stay on as cadre, you get the non-conscript pay which is ~800€ pcm for sergeants [editline]13th June 2014[/editline] also "Support towards mandatory military service has grown continuously. In 2005-2007, about 85-88 percent of the respondents believed that it is necessary. Since January 2008, support has been about 90 percent. In January 2010 even 94 percent were in favor of compulsory military service." http://www.baltictimes.com/news/articles/28109/

I'm pretty sure alot more people would enjoy conscription If it was alot shorter. Its 2 years here man, and the women are all halfway through university by the time you come out of conscription. Also, conscription is good for people who just do nothing/have shit qualifications because they can always sign on as a regular. They get free education, a lump sum (like $20 000 here) and free healthcare, etc.
The shit pay is one thing. The pay gap between ranks is another. Towards the end of my service, I got around $760 a month as a Corporal while my peers were getting $1100+ as Sergeants. In our branch of service and as conscripts, workload was identical for these two ranks. The only reason they were collecting sometimes up to $400 dollars more is because our pay is pegged to the army pay scale.
In our branch of service and as conscripts, workload was identical for these two ranks.
fireteam leader vs squad leader? not very similar at all or is it different in singapore
fireteam leader vs squad leader? not very similar at all or is it different in singapore
I was in the Coast Guard, it didn't make a difference whether you were a Corporal or Sergeant, everyone had the same kind and amount of work to do.

Also, if you got called back for reservice, and you forgotten/didn't inform the Ministry of Defence, you will be considered AWOL and be charged. Mostly fines, but sometimes they go to military jail aka Detention Barracks.
Conscription promotes discipline and purpose, while suppressing complacency and arrogance, which is necessary to the growth of a young adult. Without discipline (which admittedly can be achieved without the use of conscription itself) a young Western adult usually loses direction in life, and becomes susceptible to irrelevant subcultures, in addition to being heavily entrenched in the belief that the society and world he lives in must at all times cater to him and others like him. Discovering the meaning of hardships and unfairness at an early age becomes useful in life, as a person who has never known either can not rationally appreciate good fortune nor effectively combat unfairness or hardship itself. People who argue against conscription with pacifistic slogans and idealistic arguments (i.e, it's barbaric, people shouldnt be forced to do what they dont want to do, etc.) tend to miss the bigger picture. In addition to building character, well-implemented conscription also gives people a set of useful skills they could use later in life should they so choose. And contrary to oppositionists, those skills don't boil down to "how 2 fire a gun" whatsoever. The scope and broadness of the useful effects of conscription on society cannot be overlooked for the sake of idealistic 'its imposing' arguments.
This reads like an ad for a fascist society.
-snip landwhales aren't allowed-
This reads like an ad for a fascist society.
You can spin it anyway you like, but it seems to be fairly accurate in practice.
Look out we've got a real expert over here What the fuck are irrelevant subcultures anyway? Irrelevant to what?
irrelevant to the might and power of the fatherland of course! something that might distract you from service to the nation!

I don't like pics of myself, I always look bad. What to do with hair? I've always wanted to see how i look in long hair (and immediately cut it since I would probably look horrible in it) but it's getting out of control tbh.
