Why should they continue using bear skin when it's only a tradition with no necessity? I don't see how synthetic isn't as good when it has no use besides aesthetics.
I'm not a PETAfag but I agree with some of their views. Mainly (some) animal testing. Up to a certain point.
[editline]02:26AM[/editline]
Actually, I'd join PETA but I think it costs money. I'm so getting this shirt though.
Not entirely related, but holding onto traditions just because they're traditions is a fairly silly thing to do.
For PETA in doesn't matter who you are but if you eat meat or even touch an animal they are worse then Hitler to you, although Hitler was a vegetarian so I gues they praise him. Anyway I remember they got pissed at Batman because in the movie he beats up a dog that attacks Batman. IN A FUCKING FILM. And Ted Nugent said he's gotten death threats for his kids because he rides a bull into concerts.
No he wasn't.
Yeah. Humans are piss poor hunters, but we used our massive brains as weapons.
I think it is perfectly ok to eat meat, the human body needs it (which is why vegetarians need supplements just to keep healthy).
I also think Bearskin Caps are necessary. The history behind the bearskin cap is immense. It has also become an icon. Whenever someone thinks anything about England, Bearskin Caps are probably one of the first things to be mentioned. Even the methods of acquiring the bearskin is completely humane (pest control, killed instantly, not bred in a cage, etc.).
PETA are just a bunch of butthurt animal activists that have forgotten what their real mission is and now hate anything that involve humans dominating animals.
Sorry, but no vegetarian needs any supplements if they eat correctly (which is not hard at all). It's a common misconception.
That's fucked up man. I'm going to spread the news about this.
So instead we should feed them until they die naturally? There are plenty of animals to choose from still.

I'd like to see you watch a cow being slaughtered. In real life, and then eat a burger. Also, I respect all you hunters out there. If you don't have the balls to do it yourself, you don't deserve to eat meat.

I've protected vegetarians in some other threads but fuck that. Animal testing has made us the biological powerhouse that we are. Clapping your hands does more damage than Animal testing.
Aren't these fuckers the ones who go to the extreme and fire bomb animal testing labs?
No, they aren't. Peta don't condone anything of that nature. If a PETA member did it (some do), it's them acting on their own. Just like how every Muslim isn't a terrorist.
I was trying to say I agree with animal testing up to a certain point, I think it came out backwards.
Yeah, and I was saying, what certain point.
Yeah, because their videos about slaughterhouses are totally fake and none of that ever happens. Yep, all made up.
No, but not all are like that dumbass. Immature kids are the only ones that actually believe the shit that goes around by PETA. Yeah, true, shit goes on in slaughterhouses that should be stopped, but that doesn't mean that hunting should be banned. It is in fact a form of pest control. If we didn't go out hunting, there would be animals running our urban streets, attacking and killing many humans. Now, would you rather spare a few animal lives for a few more human lives? If so, please GET THE FUCK OUT OF EARTH. Because you just prioritized your life over an animal.
I don't mind scientific or medical (unless it's redundant). anything cosmetic should stop. I hate all cosmetic things, though, unless you're really messed up (missing half your face, etc).
I'd probably agree with PETA about this if these bears are just being slaughtered for their fur, but if they're going to be culled anyway then I don't see a problem putting the fur to use.

That's just uneducated and ignorant, PETA has been found to have funded the Animal Liberation Front. The ALF have been the prime suspects in several fire-bombing and sabotage incidents.

Because having bears run rampant around canda isn't the best thing for the local populance? And so you know no chick is made into nuggets considering their lack of meat it's more likely to be a cockrel that's lived for about a year.
And yes, Hitler was a vegetarian.
He also hated smokers and smoking in general.
He had bad gas and his personal physician had to prescribe him anti-farting pills.

If either of you bothered to thoroughly read through my thread, you would have gotten your answer already.
The bears are being culled for pest control, industrial and economic reasons as well. So, as I've said in my thread, even if they stop the tradition the bears will still be killed.

How does PETA fund ALF? It's a leaderless resistance (thanks Wikipedia). I doubt they have ever directly funded active members of ALF.

I read the thread, something about being waterlogged. Take the hat off, tradition is idiotic. And Hitler only reduced his meat consumption, and never became vegetarian (in todays standards).
Maybe he was, whatever, move on.

No, I thought eachindividual McNugget was a single chicks flesh.
If you read all of that and still think so, I think you're being a bit of a plank.
You don't get it, whether they continue using the bearskin caps or not, the bears will still get culled by the Canadian government and Inuit hunters.
Please review what PETA has brainwashed you into thinking.

Regardless of whether or not the tradition is carried on, those bears won't stop getting killedso why not carry on the tradition using the fur from animals that have been killed anyway for reasons other than their fur.
The first thing I thought when I saw the title was Mothership Zeta and bottlecaps.
How does PETA fund ALF? It's a leaderless resistance (thanks Wikipedia). I doubt they have ever directly funded active members of ALF.
PETA has funded ALF so many times it's not even funny.
Which is why I'm so confused as to how you believe that they do not.
And chicken nuggets do not come from baby chickens.
How do you even get a bear in a car without expensive tranquillisers and tranquilliser guns?
A lasso to the ankles?
On topic: PETA is fucking retarded. Why can't they be sane like the ASPCA or other wildlife preservation groups instead of trying to treat dumb animals as if they were humans? We're superior to all of this planet's animals, and they're trying to tell us that we really are 100% equal.
I know facepunch isn't my personal army, but Anonymous should DDoS PETA like they did with the fucking $cilons

I don't know the whole story, but I'd prefer things not dying. Fur's just another reason to kill them.

The bears that the fur comes from are hunted/culled for population control reasons etc etc, so even if the hats weren't made out of bear fur, the bears would still be killed regardless, so why not use the fur? Better than just killing the bear and leaving it to rot.
that seems to be the point everyone is missing

I'm torn to be honest, not sure where I stand anymore. I just hate all the people calling PETA hypocritical. They really aren't that extreme, you should go on Craig's List and look on the vegan forum. Bunch of crazy people, some are very moderate though. The only extreme thing they do are their demonstrations, which I find hilarious to watch. I'd high-five a demonstrator if I ever saw one happening in person.
Someone link the penn and teller episode on PETA and other animal rights activists. PETA is honest to goodness insane, or at least very stupid.
