Help, my brother thinks he's a woman and has dressed like one secretly before
You're an asshole, mind your own business and stop acting like an insecure 13 year old. That's my advice.
it's funny because my brother's friends [who are 12 years old] have no problem with myself being trans and call me she and whatnot, yet kids my age and above will go out of their way to make me feel horrible about it.
To the OP, maybe you should try not to be such a bigot? What she does isn't any of your business.
um you are circular logicing

and manliness produces testosterone
Yeah and?
It works in much the same way you get more confident by standing in confident poses and you get less confident by having more submissiv poses.
How you can smile more and be more happy by forcing smiles and how you can also make yourself more sad by acting sad.
I'm like 90% sure Violation_SNG does not have a sibling.
good for your family unit
however you don't know sng's family unit
so don't make sweeping claims
Try actually paying attention to what I'm saying. I was countering your claim that it's perfectly acceptable because everyone would react that way when it is obviously not the case.
It's one thing to not understand it and be uncomfortable with it. But it's another altogether to refuse to learn about it at least. Although it sounds like if OP is actually Cassy's brother, he's at least willing to talk to her about it.

then it's a troll thread?
eh

Why do we really care?
I find the topic and subject more important than whether or not this is actually the transgender posing as a made up brother or not.
then it's a troll thread?
eh
It's most likely Violation_SNG posting on her alt for attention.

Well yes but I'd rather talk about it somewhere else rather than giving an attention whore more attention.
this thread's hilarious.

Can someone explain this whole thing about gender being an entirely cultural construct that is fluid and can change. I always thought it was naturally rooted into our psychology like sexuality

AFAIK it can't change. Sure you could hide it. deny it and stuff but you can't change what you are deep down inside.
At least thats what I know of it.

Ha, good to get that from an actual transperson as other people have been saying otherwise and getting me way confused
Can someone explain this whole thing about gender being an entirely cultural construct that is fluid and can change. I always thought it was naturally rooted into our psychology like sexuality
it's both
saying that gender is completely independent of biology, while politically correct, entirely fails to describe reality. at the same time, it is fluid to an extent, and gender roles certainly have a large cultural component.

although biological hormones influence behaviour, it's generally accepted that socialisation into gender rolls has a bigger effect
it's not hard to look at certain things that are "normal" and/or "expected" for a gender and realise that it can't possibly have anything to do with biology, especially when you compare our western culture to ones that are wildly different, such as aboriginal cultures in various countries

biology is the larger contributor
nah

Yeah i've just assumed that people have been getting gender and gender roles mixed up as the same thing
Yeah i've just assumed that people have been getting gender and gender roles mixed up
even gender roles are biologically determined to a certain extent.

There really is no definitive evidence. It's always gonna be in the nature vs. nurture debate. However, there was one expierment that showed that it could very well possibly be a natural thing you're born with (and honestly, it feels that way).
A while back ago, there's a baby boy named David who, only a few months old, lost his penis due to some fire accident that happened. The penis was pretty much destroyed, and the doctor they went to convinced David's parents to give David a sex change operation, turning his penis into a vagina, and then giving David hormone pills to live his life out as a woman so they could avoid the whole issue of a mangled penis. The parent's agreed, and they changed David's name to Barbara, and raised him up as a female.
As Barbara grew older, she exhibited behaviors and norms like a boy. As she got older, she started feeling wrong in her body. At 14, her parents admitted the burning accident, the SRS, and the estrogen hormone pills. Barbara immediately went back to David, and lived his life as a male. At about... the age of 35 he killed himself.
The expirement was really fucked up because the doctor never gave away his true intensions of why he wanted to do it. Regardless, the experiment still brought evidence that gender identity may not be taught or socially constructed. You can't force a boy to live as a girl, they will hate it. It's true for transgender folk. A girl in a boy's body can not be a boy.

Correction: David's penis wasn't burned. There was an accident during circumcision.

iirc the doctor had a political axe to grind and wanted to prove that gender was a social construct
(don't quote me on this)
Explain that post then.

I said this was his account. He writes his accounts down and uses the same passwords on everything
And I'm just going to talk to him later. I don't know if I can really accept it but maybe he can talk me into it
even gender roles are biologically determined to a certain extent.
One thing that got me confused is that if gender is entirely cultural then logically speaking there wouldn't be such a thing as gender dysphoria in the first place
In other words how would someone be convinced they're in the wrong body from a young age if this was the case? It would be no different to being convinced you're the wrong race or even species (and in the instances where these have happened it's been down to mental disorders)
iirc the doctor had a political axe to grind and wanted to prove that gender was a social construct
(don't quote me on this)
but the the opposite political axe would want people to believe gender is biologically ordained so i guess we'll never get the definitive answer
Lol lord crypto
Lol cassy
Looooool
but the the opposite political axe would want people to believe gender is biologically ordained so i guess we'll never get the definitive answer
The way I see it is
Sex= biological
Gender= biological/psychological
Gender Roles= psychological/cultural
And I'm just going to talk to him later. I don't know if I can really accept it but maybe he can talk me into it
Regardless of whether you're comfortable with it, if you really care for your sibling you should try to be as supportive as possible.
yo VIOLATION the jig is up you can stop attention whoring now.
but the the opposite political axe would want people to believe gender is biologically ordained so i guess we'll never get the definitive answer
but we do have a definitive answer, that's the wonderful thing about science: it works regardless of what political beliefs you have
but we do have a definitive answer, that's the wonderful thing about science: it works regardless of what political beliefs you have
science is always paid for by someone. following whatever report you read 100% to the letter because it was labelled 'science' is almost as dumb as thinking you're the son of adam and eve
sorry to burst the internet's bubble
