Maybe?
Thank you very much. I watched this one through and then checked out the entire album. I think I have a new favourite artist.
I realized my music collection, while somewhat diverse, has almost all male singers.
Would you recommend some bands/albums that have female singers, in particular very emotive female singers. Bonus if the lyrics are easily comprehensible (I'm terrible at hearing words)
In terms of genre I guess I'm looking for the equivalence to bands like Radiohead, King Crimson, R.E.M, etc. I guess I'm aiming for 'softer' music but I'm open to genre.

Any particular genres you want?

Check: The Knife, Fever Ray and Björk.

5th is Homogenic
6th - Fiona Apple's Tidal
7th is Knife's Silent Shout

Probably not what everyone would consider "core albums" these are just some of my favourites. :)

I think I've heard The Knife with that music video that a lot of facepunchers were getting a hateboner off of. Cool music.

Band: To My Boy
Album: Messages
Genre: Electropop/indie
Year: 2007
To My Boy are a very underrated band who unfortunately kind of got forgotten along with a lot of the other "new rave" bands that were around at the time. Their first album "Messages" has a lot of energy and is a ton of fun to listen to.

Mass of The Fermenting Dregs by MASS OF THE FERMENTINGS DREGS
Another one of those J-Rock/Alternative bands. Their self title album is definitely worth checking out. While only being 30min long, it is extremely satisfying to listen to. The album begins as a simple alternative rock album, but unfolds more depth as it goes. エンドロール, the longest song on the album, is probably my favourite from it. It's a simple instrumental with a very nice build up.
I'm looking for some older Appalachian Folk, and/or Bluegrass. Any outstanding artists/albums?
I can't stop listening to Machinae Supremacy and Offspring, anyone know anything similar?
Dark Moor - Ars Musica
Several songs stuck to my brain forever, especially the chorus of this:

I guess this thread got kinda combined with the "Suggest Me Music" thread, so here goes:
Anyone know something similar to Swans' The Seer album?
I'm not really much of a fan of their other work, but I think that The Seer is fantastic, since it's rather weird but still has this kinda dusty and almost folky vibe to it.
Examples of what I'm looking for:

hey guys
listen to Bobb Trumble, first tw albums
from the eighties, but sounds more like some outsider from the 60s, but then there's an almost dream poppy side, and Sparks-esque vocals I don't even know
Darrin James Band
Thrones of Gold

Only vid I could find on youtube, the live video doesn't do it justice.
Absolutely great album, very catchy. Vibes of Bob Dylan and Tom Waits in this severely underrated band. I think they're back on iTunes now, give it a listen.
Shameless bump time!
I was introduced into the indie-esque realm of music by way of Manchester Orchestra. To this day, I haven't found much that sounds similar.
I did, in my journeys, discover "All Get Out", A surprisingly underground-ish band from South Carolina.

Their album "The Season" may have poppy vibes, but it doesn't detract from the Manchester-like rawness I've come to know and love.
If you're a fan of Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine, Bad Books, etc. then you should definitely check this out.
I'm stuck on this. Such an awesome, nostalgic sound.

I've been listening to Yoko Kanno's soundtracks for Cowboy Bebop for ages now and when I heard that she had released normal albums as well I was quite intigrued.
I didn't know what to expect from this album, but it was a very pleasant surprise.
Almost every song has a different style, all combined with a (mostly) care-free and chill atmosphere.
The vocals by Maaya Sakamoto are absolutely fantastic. She has a very beautiful voice, especially when accompanied by Yoko Kanno's incredible songwriting.
Most of the songs are very easy to listen to and easy to enjoy with fairly minimal instrumentation, a clean production and standard song length.
The album never manages to be boring, however, since the songs range from jazz to jpop to even some fairly experimental atmospheric works.
I whole-heartedly recommend this album to people who are looking for new chill music.

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
Alternative/lo-fi/indie rock. An amazing album, despite being relatively unknown. Every song on this album is golden, which is always incredibly refreshing to hear. It's worth a listen.

I listened to this because of your post a couple of months ago and I forgot to say that I really, really liked it. Thanks for posting it, homie.

Anyone know of an artist/album progressive rock with a bluegrass theme?

Band: Falls of Rauros
Album: The Light That Dwells in Rotten Wood
Genre: Atmospheric Black/Folk Metal
Year: 2011
A few days ago I was going to make a post on my metal recommendations blog. I scrolled through my metal folder, and I saw Falls of Rauros. "That will do." I thought, and brought up youtube. On my search, I saw a song from this album, which I knew of but hadn't given a listen (for some reason). So I gave it a try, and a part of my mind said to me "Guuuurl, why didn't ya listen to this earlier?!" (but in swedish with a strong dialect).
Because it's Amazing! If you like Cascadian BM (even though it's from Maine) or eco-radical/anarchistic BM in general, give this a listen!
