Camo & Krooked - Zeitgeist, can't recommend this enough. https://www.hospitalrecords.com/shop/release/camo-krooked/nhs241-zeitgeist it may deviate from their usual drum and bass, but it's still awesome.
Recently did a 70's prog rock marathon thing, and here's a couple of the albums I listened to that I think are really worth hearing if you're into prog rock. Not going to write longer reviews for these like my other recommendations, since I don't really have much to say about them. Triumvirat - Illusions on a Double Dimple [t]http://www.israbox.com/uploads/posts/2011-10/1318953629_82e02944e3a3e380aa1130017b8_prev.jpg[/t] Sounds sort of like a fusion of Gabriel-era Genesis, ELP and Yes. Has some very broadway esque sections and some incredibly powerful parts with its amazing use of female background vocals. Quella Vecchia Locanda - Il Tempo Della Gioia [t]http://cfs9.tistory.com/image/35/tistory/2008/07/29/22/30/488f1b71798c1[/t] Very symphonic and has some great world music esque parts. Absolutely incredible production for a 70's album, I have to say. Gun - Gun [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PyTNtKyHSHY/UCA7GQEExWI/AAAAAAAADaE/DIHeioBcNKc/s1600/The+Gun+cover.jpg[/t] Not really that obscure, but some really great pre-breakthrough prog rock. It's not as proggy as most albums, but has that great 60's rock sound that keeps it going well regardless.
It's pretty trippy and is one of my favourite albums from this band.
Band: Waldgeflüster Album: Femundsmarka - Eine Reise in drei Kapiteln Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal Year: 2011 If Austin Lunn (Panopticon) time and time again recommends a band wholeheartedly, it must be good, right? That's what I thought when I decided to try this album out. I was not disappointed! It's great!
The Albatross by Foxing Fantastic first LP by this band. If you are looking for a emotionally drenched blend of rock then give this LP a listen to. My favorite song off the album:
Band: Dopamine Album: Dying Away in the Deep Fall Genre: Blackgaze Year: 2011 Depressive Black Rock/Blackgaze in Chinese. Sold yet? No? Maybe it will sound a bit more interesting if I refer to it as my favourite east-Asian black metal find since Deep Mountains (and I fucking Love Deep Mountains). Because it is. (The video says "V" but the actual name of the song is "死于深秋")
Artist: Childish Gambino Album: Because The Internet Genre: Alternative Hip-Hop Year: 2013 Childish Gambino (AKA Donald Glover) has always struck as a bit of a novelty rapper. It was always his side thing and always seemed like a bit of a joke. With Because The Internet he's destroyed that idea. This is dark and unsettling music, but with the occasional hopeful or happy track. Thankfully these don't turn into the self-obssessed kind of upbeat tracks he had on his last album. But the thing that's really blown me away about this release is its format. There's the album, which stands perfectly well on its own two feet, but there's also a 20 minute experimental short film that acts as a prelude, and a 75 page screenplay written to be read while the album is playing. It's ambitious, new, and yet manages to not be pretentious at all. AOTY contender for me. You can listen/read/watch the whole thing for free at www.becausetheinter.net
If you enjoy 80's music or bands that are a bit quirky.. The 1975 - self titled album.
Anyone know any good recent roots reggae albums?
Entertainment! - Gang of Four The 13th Floor Elevators If anyone's feeling adventurous and edgy.
Entertainment is one of my favourites. Other than The Pop Group, I can't think of any other punk group that has such awesome basslines.
Band: Saor (previously Àrsaidh) Album: Roots Genre: Atmospheric Folk/Black Metal Year: 2013 A good rule of thumb: If Austin Lunn recommends it, it's worth checking out. With that in mind I went through his albums-of-the-year list, and this was one of the albums. And... ...HOLY CRAP THIS ALBUM! IT IS AMAZING! YES, ALL-CAPS AMAZING EVEN! If you like atmospheric black metal and/or folk/black metal LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM! You will NOT be disappointed!
Anything that hits as hard as TNGHT.
Entertainment is one of my favourites. I can only describe this as Gang of Four and Echo & The Bunnymen with lots of acid
Scum by Napalm Death is an essential album for fans of extreme punk in my opinion. Both sides of the record mesh together perfectly to create an amazing album with extreme ferocity. Napalm Death are considered the pioneers of Grindcore and this album is definitely a 10/10 in my opinion.
Band: Devo Album: Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! Genre: Post-punk, New Wave A great album for people who like arty New Wave with a post-punk edge. Stand-out tracks are "Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy": "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction": and "Mongoloid":

Bands: Aylwin & Stellar Descent Album: Farallon Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal Year: 2013 And now for something completely different from my usual recs. In that it is a split, that is. When it comes to the music it is more my usual, that is, ~44 minutes of Cascadian black metal goodness squeezed into two tracks. Also, it's free! So if you like Cascadian bm, give it a listen!
Porches. - Slow Dance in the Cosmos (2013) Slow, moody, groovy (and honestly, catchy) rock. Really fantastic songwriting and lyrics highlighted by Aaron Maine's soothing voice. Gets better with every listen. Listen - http://porchesmusic.bandcamp.com/ Fog - Ether Teeth (2003) A slow, abstract, minimal album including a ton of ambience and interesting samples/instrumentation. Full of raw emotion and sincerity. An all time favorite. Sample (very few of these songs are even on youtube for some reason):
Jai Paul | Jai Paul Electronica Jai Paul's leaked "demos" (I use this term lightly because they don't even sound unfinished) are incredible, think about the mysticism of Burial combined with the funky production of early Prince and you have this album. Jasmine and BTSTU have already been released and whilst both songs give brief glimpses of Jai Paul's lush, dreamy production style, they have nothing on the contents of the leak. I'd pick a stand-out track but it's too hard to pick just one song this album, such is the standard of work on display. It's one downfall is that some of the most enjoyable tracks are tragically short. Check this out if you want to go on a journey of good vibes.
I would like to recommed Pissed Jeans, King of Jeans, album. They remind me a lot of 80s bands like Melvins and Mudhoney, which is a good thing. Everyone should have a little Mudhoney in their lives. Anyway, they have a new album out but King of Jeans is my favourite. Here is a song of theirs, it's about things

The Chain Gang of 1974 Daydream Forever (2014) Just released a few days ago. If you like electronic music a la M83 this album is amazing. They debuted their first single, Sleepwalking, on the GTA V soundtrack.
Vocals are like MUSE and a distinct style.
Sounds more like Queen, IMO In fact, the entire song sounds like Queen
^^Regardless, few songs are so beautiful.
