Lonerism - Tame Impala
I think I saw someone reccommend innerspeaker up the page somewhere, some modern psychedelic rock, all round pretty great with some songs you most likely have heard before

Drenge - Drenge
Alt-rock/grunge, i'm not sure how to describe it really but its real nice, not many people have heard of drenge but its a familiar sound

J Dilla | Donuts
Hip Hop/Instrumental Hip Hop/Beats
Donuts is one of the definitive albums that I'd recommend to anybody seeking to get into Hip Hop.
There's an incredible amount of adjectives I'd use to describe this album. It's an amalgamation of positive energy, entrancing beats, an incredibly masterful use of samples and it sounds timeless. It sounds like it's never aged since it's release all the way back in 2006 despite Dilla's use of old funk and soul samples, it sounds modern and ever-relevant. Dilla's sampling pulls this album through so many decades of music but it's produced in a way that makes it sound and feel inherently modern, simply said, it's saturated in musical goodness from start to finish.
There's also a great deal of emotion in this album, which can be pinpointed in the tracks Don't Cry (speculated by Questlove to be for J Dilla's mother, the lyrics "I can't stand to see you cry" clearly audible throughout the track) and Last Donut of The Night (which to me personally feels like Dilla's way of saying "I know this is the end").
The amount of tracks seems daunting at first for unaccustomed listeners, 31 tracks in all, but it only lasts 43 minutes due to the short nature of the majority of the tracks (intended to be looped and rapped over, as many artists have done with some of these beats).
It's a journey though; an incredible, mesmerising, emotional journey and I highly recommend it as either a gateway into Hip Hop or as an album to listen to whilst on the move. Donuts' range gives it versatility, it's capable of fitting into most moods.

Bo En | Pale Machine
How do I even describe this album? It's an aural sugar-rush. It's a mixture of forward-thinking electronic production, sickeningly cute songwriting and heavy J-pop influences. It's like if you took Cashmere Cat, Passion Pit and Breakbot, put them in a blender, then poured the resulting pulp over the world's biggest ice-cream sundae. The whole thing's only 25 minutes long, but it's a damn good 25 minutes.

Band: Thränenkind
Album: The Elk
Genre: Black Metal/Depressive Rock/Post-Punk
Year: 2013
When I wrote my albums-of-the-year list, I didn't realize until it was to late that I had forgotten one album. And this is that album. In my opinion, this was the best black rock release of 2013! Absolutely Amazing!

Also, the band members are anarchists and include green-anarchist philosophy in their lyrics (thus you can define them as RABM), which is always a plus to me!
What's a good album for someone who likes the style of Kate Bush? i.e. the esoteric references within the lyrics, lyrics that convey a sense of unease under a deceptive melody and the unique use of instruments across a wide range of cultures?

Band: Wild's Reprisal
Album: Defiance Enthroned
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal
Year: 2013
And now for something completely unexpected; me, posting Cascadian bm on Bandcamp! Bet you never saw that one coming!
I guess the quickest way to sum up Wild's Reprisal is "Essays about deep ecology and ecocentrism made into black metal", something Gedden does with great success. Imo, this is better than his first release, Cascadia Rising, but you might disagree. Anyway, both albums are released as name-your-price, so that's good.

laurie anderson.
Haven't found many along those lines, similar singers and styles but lyrically she's a rarity.
also Happy Rhodes, worth checking out.
Currently work in a cocktail bar and I am trying to make a playlist for it. But struggling a bit for some song ideas. Wanting something chilled. Does anyone have any albums they could suggest, that would be good a cocktail bar?

A bar/restaurant I used to work at used Bonobo's album Black Sands occasionally, some jazz would probably be a good shout as well (I don't really know anything about Jazz so ask AK'z).

but tbh it depends entirely what kind of bar it is, the music has got to work with the decor too.

WOMEN - WOMEN
Noise-Rock,Noise, Folk, Noise-Pop, Indie-Pop
Within the span of a week this has become one of my favorite albums. I was first intrigued by it by someone saying that they hold it in very close regards with Slint's "Spiderland", and after a dozen or so listens I can absolutely agree. There is wonderful experimentation in this album. Not only just the mixing of noise and a-tonalness with pop melody sensibilities or just the production, but the spirit of experimentation is noticeable in every vocal or guitar or percussion instrument. There are parts of this album that, like I said, remind me of Slint with plucking and plodding deliberate mathematical song writing, in some songs I hear similarities to Arcade Fire with wonderful and catchy vocals with fascinating lyrics and then there are times where I am caught off guard by distinctly free jazz sections such as the album's closer. It's a wonderfully experimental and bold album that has a lot to give with repeated listening.

Band: Encircling Sea
Album: A Forgotten Land
Genre: Atmospheric Black/Doom Metal/Post-Rock
Year: 2012
This post is completely different from all the other posts about eco-black-post-doom-rock-metal albums I've ever done. Guess why! (It's because I'm posting from a cheap hotel room in Osaka, Japan instead of back home in the scandinavian taiga)
Anyway, this album is Great! Also, they are Australian and not Cascadian for once! ((if you like Cascadian bm you will probably like this too) speaking of Aussie eco-metal I think I posted Cicadan at some point but I can't remember)
Anyway anyway, it is released as a name-your-price with all proceeds going to a grassroots forest defence group in Tasmania, so that is very good indeed!

Give a listen if you like 60s psychedelic rock.
A lot of good stuff in here! I have so much I want to share but I don't want to flood the thread with my whole library so I picked out two of my favorites:
Artist: Tunng
Album: Good Arrows
Genre: Indie electro-folk

My favorite song off the album: King
Apparently they don't have King on youtube, so here's a more commonly popular song off the same album: Bullets

And the second one...
Artist: Bot'Ox
Album: Babylon By Car
Genre: Electronic alt-rock

My favorite on the album: Blue Steel

Artist: Phobonoid
Album: Orbita
Genre: Ambient Black Metal
Much of this has a very spacy sound without going in the realm of slower paced space themed Ambient Black Metal. Where this shines the most is the parts that pretty much completely Ambient.

Arctic Monkeys albums are overplayed the second they come out. AM also isn't an 'indie' album, nor is the band itself, they've developed a 'Desert rock' sound now after their last album was heavily influenced/produced by Josh Homme. Far better sound than their original overrated albums prior, but it still gets boring fast.
[Sp] Alex Turner is also a bit of a knob too [/sp]

Band: Harakiri For the Sky
Album: Aokigahara
Genre: Black Metal/Post-Rock
Year: 2014
Felt that it was a while since my last DSBM rec, so luckily I found this while randomly browsing bandcamp, and it turned out to be wonderful! What first caught my attention was the name of the album, after the infamous "suicide forest" at the bottom of mt. Fuji (which I never got a chance to visit during the two months I was in Japan (I'm back now)). I had for a long time wondered why you didn't find that name in dsbm more often...
Anyways, the music is good enough that it probably will end up with the new Falls of Rauros, Panopticon and probable Alda on the Albums of 2014 list! Also includes several guest vocalist (Seuche from Fäulnis, Eklatanz from Heretoir et cetera) which all do some great work!
Highly recommended to all fans of black rock (Lifelover, Apati, Psychonaut 4) and post-BM (Fen, Altar of Plagues, Thränenkind)!
