It used to be. The idea behind aniconism in Islam is that creating a depiction of a person or animal means you're trying to impersonate Allah - you're trying to be as good as him by having your own stab at creation. This is why it's considered blasphemous - you're trying to equate yourself with Allah. There's several stories in the Qu'ran about how the Prophet Mohammed refused to enter houses with drawings of animals in, stating "I'll only enter if you can breathe life into your creations". The Persians tried to get around this by painting miniatures. The argument was that if the paintings were really really tiny, they couldn't be mistaken for the real thing and so they weren't pretending to be Allah by drawing people and animals. The argument didn't stick, though, so most depictions of animals and people (especially the Prophet Mohammed) were destroyed. The one up there shows Mohammed leading Jesus, Moses and a couple of other people in prayer.
XD Nice religion Muslims. You hate Jews, you force your beliefs onto other people under threat of death or worse, and you think being cultural is blasphemous. Sounds a lot like Christianity a few hundred years ago. Hell, we still have the last one. and both of these religions are similar to the Nazis. This is why Agnosticism is FTW.

If any Muslims are reading this thread, I'd like to officially distance myself from this guy. He may be agnostic but he doesn't speak for me.
I share the opinion of PaulsEgo on Youtube, that I also find it disgusting that it's 2010, the year when we were supposed to have flying cars and shit and people still need to waste time to show some primitive maniacs that they can draw what they want and have an opinion of their own. Religious people need to grow up. And those like Splurgy one post above, who feel the need to defend a religion should grow up too. If a religion makes sense at this age it shouldn't need defence from outsiders. And no I'm not talking about defending the people. I'm talking about defending the faith. If a friendly muslim is in danger, a human being is in danger and I will help the person. If a muslim's faith is in danger, I will help those who are endangering it.

You shouldn't need to advertise it in a brown-nosed way. If you want to distance yourself from the sane-insane debate, don't debate. :)

The ability to show that we will do whatever we want, and not be swayed by any threats, as we were before. Showing people we have an opinion and we can draw what we want is more important than it seems. I have nothing against any religious denomination, I have a problem with people being threatened over something so silly.
OHMYGAWD! D: ... There's a penis in jewdozer's pic :| .... AWESOME :D
I think you missed the point that I was making. I'm 100% for drawing Muhammad and rubbing it in the face of Islam (The faith, not the people, muslims) I'm just concerned about the fact that millions of insane people still believe that they need to advice some sane people not to draw something because it angers some unknowable entity. It's the exact same thing as a crazy person telling you to not step in between pavement tiles.
