Because war and destruction might look cool through a TV set or a computer monitor, but ruins lives, families, economies and countries.
Oh, and this shit is also what caused the fuckhuge debt that the US is in right now. Military hardware is also ridiculously expensive to maintain and produce.
K I don't really give a shit about the US' debt. Also, military hardware and the purchase of it didn't cause the current economic situation, bankers with a lack of morale obligation and bucket loads of greed caused that.
And I'm not here celebrating death and destruction, I'm celebrating the marvels of modern engineering and the beauty of aircraft.

Here's your human engineering:

And there's your plane:

The dreamliner is sexeh
Civilian airliners look like shit 99% of the time. And even that 1% has nothing on the average fighter aircraft in terms of visual appeal.
You're posting those pictures as if to say "here is some engineering, why didn't you post this instead of a fighter aircraft?" so again you're failing to even read the thread title. Go and make your space thread, or your civilian aircraft thread or your hadron collider thread.
Enemy Harriers inbound!

The Harriers in Call of Duty are extremely unrealistic.
Maybe i should make a megathread about the prettiest genocides, the most adorable recessions, the sexiest hate crimes or the hottest casualties then? Since ethics seems irrelevant around here.
Face it, these threads are unintelligent.

So are stupid comments generalising a group and making references to things vaguely related and yet exponentially worse.
This thread is lacking some of these bad motherfuckers

Generalizing a group? Which one?
Vaguely related? How is a casualty vaguely related to a killing machine? That's like saying a stab victim is only vaguely related to a bloody knife.

No because military aircraft don't cause fucking genocides, sexist hate crimes or recessions nor are they used in such instances (unless you want to be pedantic). The old saying "guns don't kill people..." comes to mind, except in this case it isn't just wishful thinking with the instances you have referred to.
And the generalisation was the users of Facepunch.
Needs some WWII F4U Corsair. Maybe not the best fighter of the war, but it was the work horse of US aerial domination in the pacific during the later years.
Not to mention...it was a sexy plane.

I never said all the members of this forum are idiots, the idiots are the ones pleasing themselves to these threads.
Military aircraft cause genocides in that they are now able to kill huge masses of people with the latest in killing-tech, and do so wherever they are deployed.
Military aircraft do cause recessions because they cost insane ammounts of money to buy, maintain and man. Looked at the US budget lately? The military spending is off the charts, and the airforce with their super high tech stealth bombers and hundreds of ridiculously costly apaches and fighters are a main cause of that.
Sexist hate crimes? I think i said "sexiest hate crimes" referring to the fact that you apparantly take pleasure in the looks of these beasts. Hate crimes and flying killing machines were just compared as an example.

Dirty hippy, war creates millions of jobs, and advances technology beyond what normal people would normally do.
War, as much as I am opposed to it, is still good as it keeps most countries economies alive.
No it's not, cause Congress cancelled it, remember? We only have like 20 iirc
They canceled further production until further notice, not canceled as in the entire project is thrown out the window a la A-12.
Isn't that designed for an entirely different role?
Also congress is looking at cancelling that too lol
Yeah, the JSF is a light multirole fighter, not a dedicated air superiority aircraft like the F-22.
Right now the damn thing is more expensive than the aircraft it's suppose to replace, the F-16. I'll bet it's gonna get canceled in the next few years like all of those projects of the 1970s (MBT-70) and post Cold War 1990s. (F-14 replacement).

Avro Arrow
Why our government scrapped it is beyond me.
Yeah, i'm sure it creates jobs and advances in certain fields of science, but history has proven that trading with countries for their resources is alot more prosperous than fighting over them. Imagine what the middle east would have been like if it hadn't been for the cold war soviet invasion of afghanistan causing the uprising of the mossad and so on? Just look at the way Iran used to be.
Those nations would have been safe, prosperous, and rich as fuck. Trading partners rather than money sinks we keep pouring our resources into.
Hey give me some good arguments to bite into, i'm out for a couple of hours.
This bro basically had escape pods!

Political retardedness. The Arrow was supported by the Liberals and when the Conservatives won the election in 1957, the Arrow lost support being a "piece of Liberal shit". Also the Americans were finalizing plans to integrate NORAD with Canada. Finally, they either had to buy long range SAMs (BOMARCs) or interceptors.

It's really too bad because (from what I can remember from grade 10) the technology of the plane was very advanced and the government simply destroyed everything that had to do with it.

Iran was basically a dictatorship-monarchy in the same way as the old Romanov Russian Empire and a US puppet until the 1979 revolution.

Useful , but once you get shot down over Russian airspace, Your well and truely fucked, no-one will come and resuce you.
I think it's pretty silly to call people immature for admiring military technology.
I find military aircraft interesting because they constantly push the limits of aviation technology. Sure, there's some unique and innovative civilian aircraft, but I think an aircraft going 2 times the speed of sound is far more interesting than an aircraft made of composite materials and has flexing wings.
Innovations tend to start in the military sector. Engines are constantly being improved and made more powerful due to the increasing standards for military aircraft. Those engine advancements pass down into the civilian sector, giving us faster, safer, and more efficient aircraft to travel about in.
Calling people immature for admiring technological feats sounds pretty immature to me. I mean, I find the weapons and stuff that inmates engineer in prisons pretty despicable stuff since it's created solely for the purpose of hurting another individual, but at the same time, I admire it. I went on a field trip to a prison and the warden showed us a gun that someone made out of pipes and shit. A fucking gun. Yes, it's horrible, but you have to admit that it is pretty amazing at the same time.
