This thread lacks experimental jets.
Saw the Blue Angels last week. Got to meet them too afterwards. I highly recommend seeing them if you have a chance. Edit: I forgot content. Coast Guard counts as military too.
I saw a coast guard helicopter today flying over the middle of new hampshire for some reason. I have a picture I took of a little bird with a gau 19 on it, but i can't find my flashdrive :(
I see them from time to time when on vacation. They really are stunning.
I love how, when the A10 attacks, you see the bullet impact before you hear the angry hiss from the sky.
probably because they are moving at supersonic speeds, right? I also heard that if an A10 pilot fires the GAU-8 (or whatever) too long, the plane will slow down to the point it will stall.

The A-10 flies at subsonic speeds and the GAU-8 firing only slows the aircraft slow by a few miles.
Where are all the dive bombers? :saddowns: Just look at these motherfuckers Ju87 SBD Dauntless

The A-10 has such a fearsome sound, reigning hell from the sky making the enemy shit brix.
sounded like the most deadliest fart in the world.

I actually like the concept but standard helicopters will work very well for now until the safety issues are worked out. It is though a very nice looking vehicle.
Could you elaborate on that? I think the fascination with destruction is something male humans are born with, it just shows in varying degrees in different people. I think the age-old rule of "if you hate the subject for an entire thread, don't post in it because irritating everyone in it constitutes trolling" comes into play here.
I think being fascinated with explosions and fast jets is different from being fascinated with murder and war.
Both untrue. The A-10 flies at subsonic speeds and the GAU-8 firing only slows the aircraft slow by a few miles.
no, I meant the GAU-8 is supersonic (the rounds)
Then why is everyone bitching about the safety issues?
because they aren't to date on the V-22 Osprey?
well marines are not allowed to die without permission, so i think it is worth bitching about
The Thread lacks B-52s or KC-135s [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/Boeing_B-52D-70-BO_%28SN_56-0582%29_is_refueled_by_Boeing_KC-135A-BN_%28SN_55-3127%29_061127-F-1234S-009.jpg[/img_thumb] Waddaya know, 2 in one
I remember seeing an A-10 fly 500 feet above my house and its gun started going off. I was shitting bricks thinking WW3 had started until I found out it was firing blanks for an airshow for the nearby airport. Maybe I'll dig up some pics from my trip to the Smithsonian about a year ago tomorrow and post them. As for the Osprey, people should get with the times. They're actually reliable now.
sry but the nazi germany 262 jet fighter is better than that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Me_262 and it was the first jet fighter in the world
The engines had tendancy to catch fire and explode moments later if too much throttle was added too fast. The first plane to ruin aviation sucked.
So nobody posted the IL2 yet ?
Then why is everyone bitching about the safety issues?
Because it tends to crash and all the parts go through tremendous amounts of stress and wear, which is the main reason this thing is needlessly expencive and unpractical. For example, if one shaft breaks while wings are shifting position, the wings will become locked in whatever state they were in, most probably at an angle, which makes landing a bitch. No autorotation. Emergency landings have yet to meet the safety standarts. Incredible downwash. No percise manouverability. It can't fly with one engine. etc. etc. etc. It's basically the G11 of aircraft.
it was bad, now it seems pretty much fixed up and it has had 3 years of service and one crash.
It still is, they just spend more money on replacing the parts and fixing it after each flight. [editline]07:55AM[/editline]
So nobody posted the IL2 yet ?
PG1 or 2, right above the giant picture of apache.
It's so awesome it doesn't need a gun.
Also a pretty aircraft: propeller-jet hybrid I-250 And another one for which I am angry for the US to nuke japs J7W1 Did only a few test flights but it had pretty good potential to be a interceptor.
