i got a full ride scholarship
what i mean by full ride scholarship is that the school pays me to ride around their campus on a motorcycle looking cool and impregnating women because i am the motherfucking man
Weighted GPA means that A's count for 5's instead of 4's, B's count for 4's instead of 3's and so on. It doesn't just increase GPA by a .2 flat rate. It applies to honors and AP classes, and there's no way you have a weighted GPA of 5+
At my school the base gpa for class rank is 5.0, and is bumped up to 6.0 for weighted. It's based on actual grades, not just a's. Then we have the standard 4.0 based on a's, b's, etc.

fucking lucky. my college does not have any women.
Your GPA and test scores are extremely shitty. However, out of all the universities you're applying to only like 3 are actually competitive (Uwah, USC, and UCI). You basically don't have a single chance of getting into UCI based on your gpa.
As for SAT IIs, colleges don't care. They won't count for or against you as long as you pass them in the requirement range.
For those thing think that's okay GPA, weighted gpa in southern california basically means +.2 for every class above CP (mine is just a bit over 5). Many UC schools won't take you if your weighted GPA isn't 3.5 or above.

I'm only the top quarter out of 600 students. Are my chances getting into UW that dead?
I'll use myself as an example on what you have to look for.
~15 Hours of community service
1 year of JV Tennis
3.89 Unweighted GPA
1830 SAT1
660 BioM SAT2
580 Lit SAT2
640 Math2 SAT2
Rank #3 of ~600 Seniors
UCR: Accepted
CSUF: Accepted
UCSD: Accepted
UCLA: Denied
UCI: Denied

Not enough community service. I've got 50+ hours and I'm still sweating about acceptance.
Also 3.7 GPA and 31 on ACT. Don't gotta take the SAT so I'm thankful..
^you ranked 3rd with 3.89? Wow.
Anyway it would be cool if I lived in California but I don't. :(
[editline]17th October 2010[/editline]
Also I only have like maybe 10 hours of community service. Fuck community service.

Well it's like ~4.1ish weighted.
That and my school is full of dumbasses.

I shit you not. When I began my freshman year, there were ~900 students in my graduating class.
Don't mess up bro.
My current:
~3.9 weighted GPA
~100 hours of community service
Letter of recommendation from a Congressman
2080 on SAT 1
Sat 2 still pending
Class rank #33 out of 348 = Top 10%
1 year of tennis
Shooting for UCLA, UCB, UCSD, guesses on whether I get accepted?
Dude I haven't gotten a B since the 4th grade and I'm 16 out of 400 with a 4.3, ffs.
I wish I had a 3.0 GPA in high school.

Ehh, apparently UCSD and UCR thought it was enough whereas UCI and UCLA didn't.
And now I'm at CSUF, so community hours didn't count for shit for me anyway. Nothing did. What a waste of all that effort in HS...
Doesn't community service help get scholarships though? That's the only reason I'm doing it even thought the top university in my state is the cheapest in the region.

Definitely. And leadership positions like varsity captain, key club president, etc.
Definitely. And leadership positions like varsity captain, key club president, etc.
Haha, speaking of this, I'm starting a load of clubs in my school, just to be able to say that I was president of them. Looks really good on your record.
Things like paintball club, chess club, a whole ton of things. We don't even have to meet, the school doesn't keep track of that, nor how many memebers it has. It just keeps track that we exist.
Plus of the few members that think it's a legit club, whenever homecoming rolls around clubs get to man booths at the carnival for the school, and get paid 50$ for each booth we man for 3 hours. Embezzlement of club funds (practice for shady buisness dealings in the future) as well as looking good for colleges, It's so evil.
I'm really hoping that my last senior year I can at least get my weighted up by .3 points. I really want to go washington.
It's almost impossible to change your GPA by that much in the last year. You'd really have to bump up your grades.
Not to mention that you're usually applying for colleges without your senior year factored into your GPA.

I have 0 in-school leadership and very little community service. I was hoping to get scholarship money with good grades and test scores but it looks like that's not going to happen, but oh well I have enough money to pay for 2 years and I'll take a loan for the rest.

I know for a fact that college admissions looks at your passion and dedication towards a few EC's as opposed to having a ton just to have a lot, because that's what makes you stand out as an individual AKA make them care about you.
The SAT only tests how well you take the SAT.
Many colleges are moving away from letting standardized test scores significantly influence their decision.
Yes, they do consider the SAT I and SAT II's together.
If your scores are just a few points below the range, your odds will not go down significantly.
Also, your scores on the AP's are really good, and your GPA is pretty good as well.
Good luck.
see everyone says stuff like this but it's really complete bullshit, the sat mimics College tests pretty fucking perfectly, especially finals (mid-terms not as much)
they're designed to see how you work under pressure and in long tests with vast amounts of material
and NOPE schools are progressively moving towards using primarily the SAT as a primary means, then GPA.
People also say things like:
Your SAT scores are fine, anywhere from 13-1600 or so is average. Some schools require you submit SAT II test scores, while others do not, so whether they consider them will vary from school to school.
Your SATs being a little low isn't a huge deal as long as the rest of your application is up to par. SAT scores are just one piece of it, and much like high scores don't make an applicant great, low scores won't ruin an otherwise good applicant.
Best of luck.
1300 is what you need to aim for based only on the math and reading comprehension portion, not total. State schools ask for a minimum of 1200-1300, otherwise you get waitlisted.
OP that really is a pretty bad SAT score, you should take it again and aim for at least a 1700. 1500 is average (aka "C" material) and is not going to make you stand out at all
the AP classes are great if you can manage to pull off two more 5's though, however I don't know how colleges really rank AP classes
:sigh: ITT: I'm really in deep.

I'm just hoping that my October SAT scores will be in soon, it's all just riding on that as of now.
