The caseless system was awesome for firerate, but you tended to have a bad case of the "gun going off continuously". One of the major uses for a brass or steel case for our rounds is that it works like a heatsink, as it's ejected, it carries a shitload of heat with it, whereas in a caseless system, you had no brass case to carry that heat away. It was one of those ideas that was awesome on paper, still really awesome in reality, but was not practical at all.
