Yeah American royal guards are probably some of the few badass ones. Besides whatever the nazis had... Well Hugo boss, so that's a no brainier victory. The Germans may have lost the war but they looked great doing it.

As far as props go it was pretty impractical since it had to be disassembled to be reloaded, which is why it didn't get actually used all that much in the show. It's still, in my opinion, one of the best-designed sci-fi firearms I've ever seen. It looks like a gun that could really exist, but the profile and contours make it visually distinct enough that it's clear that it's not just a real gun with a coat of paint.
