I actually like the look of the gun just by itself. Looks like some of those cool cut-down rifle pistols.
Personally I prefer the look of the earlier side-by-side prototypes:

Much has changed since the second World War, but bipods are one of the few that haven't

Now if only the shooter was a woman, I'd volunteer to be a bipod.

I'm glad we've learned how to stabilize our rocket dicks with something other than another soldier. That's what I expect with 60 years of progress.

Thank you I thought I was the only one who noticed that face.

Also, I really like the way the MP5 in Far Cry 3 looks, with the vented hand guard and custom sights:

And then there was that mutant M249:

Is there such a thing as a sawn-off bolt-action rifle? Would it actually be usable?

They were bolt action military rifles (originally Mosin Nagants, people have since made them from other bolt guns) chopped down for concealed carry. Used by the reds during the Russian Revolution.
Also by partisans, rebels and resistance fighters the world over.

As shown above, a sawed off bolt action is possible, but it's not really effective. The barrel is so short it doesn't really do much to stabilize the round when it leaves the barrel. It also doesn't get up to a very high velocity because most of the powder doesn't burn off because of the barrel length. Because of that they're not really effective unless you're at point blank range.

It wouldn't be hard to cut down a bolt action rifle

Never knew this sexy page existed.
Have some soviet space magic guns from that page.

Don't they also have a huge muzzle flash since most of the propellant hasn't burt off?
Don't they also have a huge muzzle flash since most of the propellant hasn't burt off?
Yes they did, that's another reason why they were only useful at point-blank range: so you could use your filthy capitalist target's body as a flash suppressor.

Wouldn't it be filthy bourgeoisie body?
Wouldn't it be filthy bourgeoisie body?
Whatever comes first, I'm sure imperialist pigs and infidels would both work fine if need be.
Don't they also have a huge muzzle flash since most of the propellant hasn't burt off?
Yeah thats another reason why it's useless. It's loud as FUCK, has a massive muzzle flash, and isn't really accurate. Whenever you fire that thing, it's basically a signal flare to everyone else to let you know where you are and what you're doing.

it's not like you were trying to stay concealed or do long range shooting with an obrez anyway
it's not like you were trying to stay concealed or do long range shooting with an obrez anyway
yeah thats actually the point of a sawed off mosin.

hnnnggg
I want one so bad
The VAL is cool, but I'd take an SR-3 over it any day:

Same round as the VAL, but its smaller, weighs less than 5lbs, and the suppressor is detachable to make it only a couple of centimeters longer than an MP5K.
shuddup both don't know shit, of you the vintorez is where it's at
what's that in your briefcase comrade?
oh you know, nothing

just an integrally suppressed select fire sniper rifle
[editline]7th August 2013[/editline]
wow I used video tags for an image, good job me
I love the Vintorez, but its identical to the VAL on the inside, and even when its disassembled its still larger than an assembled SR-3.
The wood stock does make it super classy though, nice to see wood on a modern weapon.
yeah thats actually the point of a sawed off mosin.
So like, concealed up until the exact point you fire it. :v:
