a lot of people compare the PMR-30 to the Five-SeveN not really sure why [editline]12th August 2013[/editline] besides capacity
There is this dude from america that I have talked to on several occasions, even though I don't like him very much. He is one of those that say that the M1911 pistol is the best pistol in history and should still be used with the armed forces. He's one of those guys who can't accept modernization of shit. He says that the five-seven is an overpriced .22mag pistol, because the round 5.7x28 has approximately the same diameter as the .22mag. So I think those that compare the 2 guns are people that don't understand what the 5.7x28mm round was designed for, and probably these people who can't accept that some weapons shan't be used with modern armies.

Personally I'd prefer if they were using G21s or FNX-45 Tacticals, but how often are pistols really used in combat nowadays? Only officers get issued them in the army and most combat is at range with the enemy; I don't really want to be clearing a house with only a pistol unless its all I have. Five Seven is an overpriced varmint gun and so is 5.7x28. Don't get me started on 4.6x30... I know what it was designed for, I know what it can do and I love the concept of the P90, however, we really should be moving towards the development of a more effective intermediate cartridge. We're getting there but have yet to implement or standardize because of bureaucracy; consider all the 6, 6.5, 6.8mm variants that exist now. 6x35 KAC looks like a great PDW caliber, especially since it provides more energy out of a 10in barrel than 5.56x45. Considering intermediate rifle caliber carbines are getting shorter in an attempt to fulfill a cqb role and have standoff capability, a caliber that preforms better in a shorter barrel is preferable.
real talk, does my ak-74 look ridiculous y/n
Ridiculous as in a bad thing? I like it, not sure about the grip.. but I'm sure its more ergonomic than the typical AK pistolgrip. Plus its descended from the FAL, so ya cant go wrong there!
I'd say your AK looks pretty standard as far as AKs go, Trunk Monkay. The one peice of wooden furniture with everything else as plastic doesn't look great to me but at the same time it doesn't really look terrible. Also, the grip reminds me of the ones you see on Zastava AKs.
my picture died :c

I was just wondering if it looked stupid or not, the foreend is from an RPK and everything else is polymer, I don't even have a gas tube cover so I was curious if I could take it to the range without being scoffed at.
real talk, does my ak-74 look ridiculous y/n
It could pass for an AKM, but most 74's I see have standard russkie/bulgy plastic furniture on them OR wood handguards, bakelite PG and either a wooden stock or triangle sidefolder. Ya don't have to be like everyone else.
God I fucking love the look of a 45 round bin laden mag on a 47. Still going for an ar when I feel like purchasing a semi automatic rifle. Can you go hunting with an ar 15?
God I fucking love the look of a 45 round bin laden mag on a 47.
I almost had an aneurysm reading that. You mean a 45 round 5.45x39 magazine in a AKSU-74. [editline]12th August 2013[/editline]
God I fucking love the look of a 45 round bin laden mag on a 47. Can you go hunting with an ar 15?
I mean, you can, but I wouldn't consider it humane. You would have to put one straight thru the brainstem. You're not gonna drop a deer with a .223 round. You really want a heavy round to knock the thing down.
Uh the fact that I like the look of a classic 45 round ak47 magazine attached to the host weapon caused an artery in your brain to wither and nearly burst? I'd recommend seeing a cardiologist and neurologist immediately. [editline]12th August 2013[/editline]
I mean, you can, but I wouldn't consider it humane. By this point I'd have probably been dropping deer like second nature with a high powered bolt action rifle, and possibly some time after that moving into using a hunting shotgun as well.
We posting our AKs? (Ignore my moldy bread camera) Also mind the plastic grip, because I totally heeded your advice trunk but it's just taking ages to get here
Really all that matters is if I can or not. when will coilguns/railguns/gauss guns be powerful enough to compete with standard ballistics
When we develop a highly efficient, safe and cost effective power supply. I could see them being weapons of the future... Lol if we get to a point where the magnetic system would constantly running the rate of fire would only be limited by how fast we can feed ammo into it if we could control the heat effectively
I've taken deer with 79 grain .223 to the heart. you won't drop one with 55 grain target shit but the big stuff will take deer alld ay [editline]13th August 2013[/editline]
when will coilguns/railguns/gauss guns be powerful enough to compete with standard ballistics
when someone other than nerds in their garage are building them

kel tec sucks the rfb is an awul gun
kel tec sucks the rfb is an awul gun
Did someone say owl gun?
when will coilguns/railguns/gauss guns be powerful enough to compete with standard ballistics
A modern rail gun actually performs reasonably well ballistics wise. A 33MJ shot from one, without a warhead equipped shell, is like being hit by a T-55 moving at around 3,000 miles per hour. The issue is the massive heat put onto the "barrel" and the enormous amounts of energy required to fire the weapon. But with all technology, it'll eventually be scaled down the point where it can be placed on frigates and cruisers like the Navy wants.
kel tec sucks the rfb is an awul gun
Still looks cool in my opinion.
I mean, you can, but I wouldn't consider it humane. You would have to put one straight thru the brainstem. You're not gonna drop a deer with a .223 round. You really want a heavy round to knock the thing down.
You can get AR styled rifles in just about any popular caliber if you look hard enough, and have the dough.
You can get AR styled rifles in just about any popular caliber if you look hard enough, and have the dough.
You would still be better off with a more dedicated platform in most cases.
You would still be better off with a more dedicated platform in most cases.
Of course, but I was more responding to foodstuffs, because he was curious about buying an AR-15 for hunting, but .223 isn't exactly the best round for that.
when will coilguns/railguns/gauss guns be powerful enough to compete with standard ballistics
They already can, in situations where all that is needed is a high muzzle velocity, because the efficiency of a conventional firearm is limited by the rate of gas expansion in the barrel. But I don't think electromagnetic weapons will be small arms for a very, very long time. Chemical propellant has an energy density orders of magnitude better than even the best batteries, and it'll take a lot of technological development before that changes.
