I don't see how a tiny projectile at high velocity would make an effective AT round. Objects striking the ISS or satellites go clean through, they don't destroy everything in a compartment like a contemporary AT round does. At a certain velocity the projectile is likely to turn to a plasma spray on impact, but if it doesn't have sufficient mass to superheat the compartment the effect is no worse than spalling from a deflected round.
something, something TB-3
This TU-2 and its 88 PPSHes would like a word with you.
I'll skip all the pointless up-gunning (no pun intended) and just go to the biggest one I know- HS-129 with a 75mm anti tank gun used to knock out T-34-85's from the sky. Because fuck you ivan. IIRC, there was a variant of the mosquito that had like a 93mm cannon on it, but I can't remember it's designation or the exact caliber of the gun.
When traveling 300km/h+ it is not the easiest thing to aim a single shot cannon at a tank sized target, so I can believe that.
Not really. Considering only 25 HS-129's with the 75 were made, and several were converted to lower caliber guns, they actually managed to knock out several hundred tanks, even after you account for the over-reporting of kills. At least 50 tanks were knocked out in a single day during the battle of Kursk by HS-129 B-3's. The aircraft got the nick name of "can opener" because of how effective it was. They would typically start a run at a range of 1,000 meters and then peel off at around 200 meters. Considering how stupidly slow that was, that gave them time to get off several shots on a single tank.

In regards to that 50 kills at Kursk claim:
They are credited with ‘wreaking havoc amongst Soviet armour’ and the destruction of hundreds of Soviet tanks in this battle. On 8th July 1941, Hs 129s are credited with destroying 50 T-34s in the 2nd Guards Tank Corps in less than an hour.(22) There is some evidence that 2nd Guards Tank Corps took heavy casualties on 8th July, but 50 tanks appears to exceed their total losses from all causes. In fact total Soviet tank losses in operation Citadel amounted to 1 614 tanks totally destroyed, the vast majority to German tanks and assault guns.(23) Further detailed research has shown air power only accounted for 2-5% of Soviet tanks destroyed in the battle of Kursk.(24) This equates to at most around 80 tanks. Again, even if this is a low estimate, where are the hundreds of tanks destroyed by German ground attack aircraft?
[editline]26th August 2013[/editline] IIRC the most heavily armed B-25's had up to 14 .50 caliber machine guns pointing forwards. Also there were variants with 75mm tank guns, too.
Best/worst idea involving the B-17 was definitely this: The YB-40 was a B-17 with its bombs removed and fitted with as many turrets as possible to act as a long range escort fighter before the P-51 was available. "Some carried cannon of up to 40 mm in calibre, and a few carried up to as many as 30 guns of various calibers in multiple hand-held positions in the waist as well as in additional power turrets above and below the fuselage."

The Madsen LAR. Pretty nutty lookin if you ask me.
It looks like an orgy between a Trench gun, an AK and a Luger [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] I can't tell if it's good or bad
I totally dig it, honestly
it looks slightly bent to me, probably just an optical illusion

You've got what looks like a forward charging handle, and maybe even a forward safety or mag release from the looks of it. I wonder if it's based on your typical Kalashnikov style system or if it's a completely new one. By the way Izmash, where the fucks my AK12 at?

Which still begs the question, why isn't Izmash importing them inot the US yet, and why isn't there one in my gun safe yet? I haven't heard any news as to why they haven't begun importation yet.
So the RPK drums are back and they got rid of the railed gas blocks? I also prefer the old stock with adjustable cheekpiece for optics. Plus they have to figure out a way to appropriately neuter it to import it, unless they want to do the Arsenal thing and reconfigure them once they're in. They also STILL haven't figured out that they could be rolling in the dosh and not going bankrupt every few months if they would make the US market a priority and sell us 9mm Vityaz, AK-12s, AK-107s etc.

I figured they would just pull a saiga and send them in a neutered pseudo-hunting rifles and shotguns that could be easily converted.

Maybe each time Old-man Kalashnikov has a stroke, they delay export of the AK12. anyway
Hallo Komerade, ich habe einen idea! Let's take the (arguably) most effective dive bomber in the world And strap a pair of motherfucking Flak 18 guns to the wings. Surprisingly these worked out very well, or so it was reported. Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the most decorated German soldier in WWII, was able to fuck up some Soviet shit with this fucked-up flipper baby of a Stuka and an AT gun. It was actually his crazy idea in the first place.
I can understand one AA gun, but why two? It doesn't exactly look like it can carry a lot of ammo for those guns.
I can understand one AA gun, but why two? It doesn't exactly look like it can carry a lot of ammo for those guns.
They're not being used to shoot down other planes, they're being used to take down tanks. They weren't AA guns originally, they were AT guns, they were converted to AA guns once 37mm's were inadequate for penetrating Soviet armor and B-17's started flying over Berlin. If you want big cannons taking on aircraft, look no further than the ME410 Don't mind me, just shooting down B-17's from a kilometer away.
