The M82 is based on the LR-300, so Qaus is basically correct. The way the LR-300 worked was they took an AR-15, shortened the bolt carrier, and extended the gas key so it reached out above the barrel, then put the recoil spring around the key, basically turning it into a buffer tube. It's a shame the rifle didn't become more popular.

(early production LR-300 for reference)
Now I will admit that, from my understanding, within lore the M82 is running on a stroke piston system, but this same buffer design could still be applied to that form of operation.

Does anyone remember the gun that looks a lot like this one?

Bushmaster M17S?
Thanks! I was trying to remember but I couldn't for the life of me.

Also I think that the High Point Model 995 looks pretty futuristic to me.
Looks like a cheapo CX4:

I will agree though, does look pretty futuristic.

I think Volition got inspired by it to make this:

Actually they blatantly stole it without paying license fees. Hence the minor differences.
Would they even need to pay licensing fees if they change the way it looks and use a different name?
Would they even need to pay licensing fees if they change the way it looks and use a different name?
It's how it's avoided all the time, but strictly speaking if it's still recognizeable you could have a case, it jsut becomes harder. Also might have the rights to some specific shapes like that buttstock.
Would they even need to pay licensing fees if they change the way it looks and use a different name?
no, which is why they gave it minor differences.
Sup guys, have a Mudjahedin with a .50 Barrett in the Russia - Afghanistan war.

So Lt_C released the 4th version of his "Sci-Fi Citizens" pack in the modelling section and included in it is this rifle:

As the filename suggests it is a "Space AUG" and I think it looks awesome.

I was actually modelling this

For the pack, but since he already released it, it'll be pushed into the backburner for a while due to personal life and whatnot.
(It has a cooling jacket around the barrel 'cause it's supposed to be able to be used in vacuum, thus the barrel needs something around it for the heat to transfer to. It's also supposed to have it's own line of scopes/optical sights so the current scope is there just for show.)
that actually looks pretty cool Ilwrath
shame it didn't get included in the pack

He's probably a young looking 16yo on his first deployment

Conscripts tend to be very young and Russian tankers have to be very very short to fit in the crew compartments, that tends to make it look like Russian tankers are 12 year olds. The Chechen wars were a major cluster fuck too. Ivan had a hard time tracking where bodies went because the troops were drunk so often; so mothers would find out that their sons were drafted and never see them again. They wouldn't find out where their bodies were buried, what killed them, even what unit they were in.
Some more from the Chechen war(s).
Internal troops.

I've heard of holographic sights before but this is just silly
I've heard of holographic sights before but this is just silly
Here's the view down the sights:

The HUD setup looks like it could be useful, although I do agree the way it's projected looks a bit silly and cluttered.
i like sci-fi sights, moreso when they're literally holographic.
but that looks like too much stuff in the wielder's vision. a simple crosshair, chevron, mil dot, etc. would do the trick. and if they want more, just put stuff like temp/wind/humidity (stuff that effects the bullet), and ammo count.
[editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
now that i look more closely most of that is on there, but all that other shit made it hard to read.

oh god thats hilariously cluttered. Theres so much unnecessary stuff going on in that sight, I would hate to have to use something like that.
but it looks cool
Here, let's have something old to balance out the space guns:

The Rock Island Arsenal M656, from what I understand one of the first railed AR-15 rifles, used a form of Weaver rail I believe.
you realize you just posted THE space age gun. Back in '59 that gun was about as space age as it got.
you realize you just posted THE space age gun. Back in '59 that gun was about as space age as it got.
Yeah, but nowadays it looks a lot less spacegun than that Star Trekified AUG.
Does anyone have some good reference pictures for modelling a 20-round STANAG magazine? I can't find any good ones. I'm trying to model one for a gun I'm making.
