Clip is just slang, and it gets the point across, so I don't see the problem.
looks like the pics are from some military excercise/training course

You look like you've been on facepunch long enough to understand the mistake you have just made
Clip is just slang, and it gets the point across, so I don't see the problem.
It's not slang, it's blatantly wrong. A clip and a magazine are 2 different things that serve different purposes. You're smart enough for me not to have to explain the difference between the two.
"Silencer" is slang for "Suppressor", "Bulletproof" is slang for "Bullet resistant". Silencers aren't real things and neither are bullet proof vests, but they're acceptably wrong slang. Clips and magazines aren't interchangeable.

Same type of person that doesn't like it when people confuse a V6 engine for a V8 engine, confuse a CPU for a GPU, or think a P-51 is a BF109.
or the god damn liberals

it doesn't get the point across at all. in fact if you have a sort of gun nutted mind in any sense you will be genuinely confused. it's actually confused me quite a bit after i became somewhat of a gun nut.
in fact i could see it failing in battle... someone needs a new magazine for their thompson so they say they need more clips.
ammo guy throws them a bunch of loaded m1 garand clips because he's to busy doing his job.

My dad called them clips while he served in vietnam and still does :/
I asked him if he cared that clips weren't the techincal term and he said that clips are just easier to say than mags. "Don't know why but in the heat of the moment it just came out easier and it wasn't like we were in boot camp where we still used m1's any more."
if clip is too difficult to say then just say mag?
i dunno but what he says kinda sounds truth.
clip is a much more satisfying term than mag. it's just pop culture turning the word mag into clip.
[editline]19th April 2013[/editline]
also clip is easier to say than mag. just try it yourself.
'clip' you can say in a quarter of the time you can say 'mag', and clip has a more distinct pronunciation that simply makes it easier to pronounce audibly in a shorter amount of time. that also makes the word 'clip' much more recognizable than 'mag'
Why the fuck does it even matter. It's so pedantic to get pissy over something like that.
Why the fuck does it even matter. It's so pedantic to get pissy over something like that.
because it's a huge difference... just trust us on this one if you really can't wrap your mind around it, no offense meant in that statement.
because this is facepunch
and facepunch is home to literally the most uptight gun nuts on the internet
get used 2 it

It's the difference between a fuel tank and a car engine or a Ram stick and a hard drive. They're 2 different things, though related, the terms are not interchangeable. A magazine is held internally inside of a firearm, sometimes detachable, while a clip feeds ammunition externally into a magazine. If you're going to get pissy at us for being anal about firearms semantics, then you're in the wrong thread bud

Ehh we do stuff like that all the time. We call U.S.A America even though that's not tech right. When people say data point, that's not tech right since the plural of data is datum and we don't say arrows point, we say arrow point. When something is the best out of a everything, we ussually call it the ultimate thing even though ultimate means last of a list of items which would suggest its the last of that group of things. People said the iPhone was the ultimate phone when obviously more phones were built after it.
There are a ton of misuses with English and I don't think using clip instead of mag is really that bad. Sure, a clip could be an m1 clip, but if you were holding an m16 and asked for a clip, would you expect an m1 clip? No of course not. The only gun that I can think of off the top of my head that holds both clips and mags is the Vz.58 and who knows what the words are for mag and clip in Czech.
It's called a fucking tabloid, not a clip

Remind me why .380 Glocks aren't legal to import to the US?
To be imported into the US handguns need to meet a certain number of points. The idea being if you stop lower quality and cheaper handguns from getting in you reduce crime. The point system includes things like overall length, materials and calibre. If the gun is chambered in a low pressure centre fire calibre like .25ACP, .32ACP or .380 Browning it loses points. The Glock in .380 fails to meet the point threshold for importation and can only be imported by Military and LE. I imagine there are a few ex cop guns floating around but they may be illegal to own

You do realise that Maxim patented it as a "silencer" and that's what the BATFE calls it as well, right?
looks like an uzi, a thompson, and a tek-9 all had an orgy and that thing was the result

It's still technically the wrong name, it's neigh impossible to silence a weapon, but you can suppress one.
