Check out Romania's new AK: [t]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/2013-09-27-16.00.34.jpg[/t] Chambered in 5.56, the fixed stock is taken from the newer Polish AKs, the charging handle is top-mounted, angled slightly to the right, and non reciprocating, fire selector is 4 position (safe, semi, triburst, full auto), and both the dust cover and hand guard are railed.
this thing right here

Why do I like it so much?

Seriously? dust cover rails?. I really want that charging handle though.

I like single shot shotguns.

Still has the child soldier pistol grip only fit for children and people with jagur-style lady hands, and that charging handle is just awful. It's meant to be charged with your left hand so your hand never leaves the pistol grip, but it faces to the right so you might as well just use your right hand anyways. It's got rails on the dust cover but I doubt it's actually hinged. They chambered it in 5.56 but were too lazy to just copy the stanag adapter for AKM's. that just looks abysmal. I would totally buy one.

Veper-16, chambered in .223 (although there's also a .308 version with most of the same features), cover is railed and hinged properly, stock is AR-15 compatible, magazines are STANAG, charging handle is non-reciprocating, and built onto the left side of the barrel. Although apparently the Romanian forces have been fielding some prototypes of their new rifle, that may or may not count for something in the design's favor.
I'm surprised that's not a common conversion
Mostly because it costs $150 and it's not even in production yet. [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline] imo I don't really like left-side charging handles unless they're on a bullpup
imo I don't really like left-side charging handles unless they're on a bullpup
What about non-reciprocating ones like the FAL? [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Israeli_Heavy_Barrel_FAL,_note_the_hinged_buttplate.jpg[/t]
What about non-reciprocating ones like the FAL? [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Israeli_Heavy_Barrel_FAL,_note_the_hinged_buttplate.jpg[/t]
I love my L1A1 to death but I would prefer the charging handle on the right side of the rifle.
I love my L1A1 to death but I would prefer the charging handle on the right side of the rifle.
Why, it's just harder to get and you have to use your right hand.
They make FAL charging for AKs, about $160. I love the idea, and they work well because they're simple, but the price tag kills me. Its a standard topcover with a slot dremeled in it and a track spot welded to it with a FAL charging handle; If I had a spot welder and the charging handle track, I could make one myself :/ http://lastroundholdopenak47.com/index.php?route=common/home Also, AIM Surplus is selling DP-28s, only $4,500...
Why, it's just harder to get and you have to use your right hand.
I just prefer it on the right since thats what I'm used too.
Check out Romania's new AK: [t]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/2013-09-27-16.00.34.jpg[/t]
Looks pretty and prototype-ish, like straight out of design lab. I want it.
Why, it's just harder to get and you have to use your right hand.
On a weapon like the FAL or SCAR which have bolt catches, having the charging handle on the left is somewhat pointless as you're only going to be manipulating the handle if your weapon malfunctions. If you have the charging handle on the right you can release the bolt without taking your hand off the firing position whether you're firing right or left handed.

The Russian Special Forces units will soon be armed with the new assault rifle. The gun is equipped with a 40 mm grenade launcher. Developers believe that its effectiveness and accuracy are comparable if not greater than the legendary AK-47m. READ MORE: http://on.rt.com/lhvdb2
Yes, it's just you. The ambassador looks nothing like a mateba.

I'm not blaming you, I'm more blaming the news source. The A-91 has been known about for years now. It's even in BF3. http://world.guns.ru/assault/rus/a-91m-e.html

pretty sure that was an april fools joke and a bad photoshop.
somehow the appearance makes me think of a tactic00led flintlock pistol
