whats with this fad of calling airsoft airshit?
i use "airshit" because it's a fun word i like airshit, and while i probably won't go airshitting, i'd definitely buy a gun to shoot at stray cats in my backyard with
it's perfectly fine to take your orange tip off so long as your gun is only out when you're doing maintenance on it in your own home, when you're actually playing on the field, or when you're shipping it in a box somewhere. well, in california at least, definitely not in the east coast or the UK. the only time people get in trouble for not having tips is when their guns are clearly visible in public, not when they're being safely transported. i removed all my orange tips for a lot of reasons. i removed them off of my M4, my two AKs, and my two pistols because they were unsightly, prevented me from using threads, and made it easier to spot me when playing at my outdoors field.
Good job removing the only thing that differentiates you from looking like a person with a toy gun and looking like a mall shooter. Seriously, that shit isn't there to be removed, it's there to stop you from getting shot. Doesn't matter if you're in your house or at your local airshit field, keep that shit on.
dumb elitism from people who own real guns, or people who prefer paintball.
I call it airshit cause I'm used to calling that, and the amount of people that pop out of the woodwork to defend airshit is always hilarious.
Actually your post is a great explanation if why we call it airshit. You have a realistic looking weapon, and you removed the only feature that proves from a distance that the weapon isnt real.
it's not going to be seen from a distance if you're using it right, so what's the problem?
They look realistic because those poor bastards in Japan can't own guns so they make the next best thing. Who else is going to go out and spend $5,000 on a realistic looking airsoft Barrett M82 when the real deal is $8,000-$10,000. This isn't Somalia or some other 3rd world country, kids don't carry AKs 'round the 'hood. To be fair, yea, I'd have probably shot the kid if I was in the same situation. I just feel like Cali cops are trigger happy asshats, especially after those retards shot those two women in their truck because they somehow resembled tall, large black man that was a cop gone nuts and killing officers wherever he saw them. W/e, shit happens, rant off.
Theres a metric fuck load of youth gang violence in California, most of which doesn't even make the news. A young teenager carrying around an AKM probably wouldn't be anything new for a cop to see over there.
Obviously if it's out of the house it should probably have the orange tip, but i guess that became an international standard and law in some places because they are stupid or something. If i took a stroll through the airsoft subforum, most of the weapons look incredibly real, so the orange tip is key in keeping you from looking like a fuckwit with a real rifle. Lets be serious now, whats more important, keeping the orange tip, and getting hit by a bb, or taking it off and getting hit by a 9mm jacketed hollow point from a cop's pistol? Or better yet, some 5.56 from a cop's real ar-15.
this doesn't really apply to me and won't happen because my airsoft guns are in a bag in my closet unless i'm taking them out to go play.
I have an electric airsoft MP5-SD5 which has a suppressor funnily enough, and once a cop intruded us while we had our masks on while playing, and said that my softy toy was pretty much indistinguishable from the ones their police force used, and then told us to move to some better location further away from public.
this is why you should play in an actual airsoft field instead of a random forest
Good job removing the only thing that differentiates you from looking like a person with a toy gun and looking like a mall shooter. Seriously, that shit isn't there to be removed, it's there to stop you from getting shot. Doesn't matter if you're in your house or at your local airshit field, keep that shit on.
Not really a problem if you treat an airsoft gun like a real gun, which is how it should be done in the first place. The ONLY places an airsoft gun should be seen is in the privacy of one's home or at an approved place to shoot it, so having it look realistic is irrelevant if you handle it safely. Lets also not forget that people get shot by police for having completely non gun related things in their hands at the wrong time, so I really don't think making airsoft guns unrealistic with an orange tip would help in any way. Personal accountability is what's really at fault here, and there's a reason minors can't buy any airshit in the US. If you're a parent who buys their kid an airsoft gun, and then lets them take it out in public illegally, you are the problem. Now back on topic: Panthers and zimmerit are super neat.
this doesn't really apply to me and won't happen because my airsoft guns are in a bag in my closet unless i'm taking them out to go play.
thats a really fucking awful argument. "It's OK for me to do 70 in my neighborhood, the children are inside most of the time" Seriously, people like you are why people with actual firearms hate the airshit community so much. [editline]28th October 2013[/editline]
Not really a problem if you treat an airsoft gun like a real gun, which is how it should be done in the first place.
Except it does help because it makes it SUPER obvious whether or not it's a real firearm. I know this may be a tough little quiz, but which one is a toy and which one is a cop-killer? Is it the plastic one with the red warning label and bright orange tip? Or is it the jet black rifle made of stamped steel? hrmmmm
Except it does help because it makes it SUPER obvious whether or not it's a real firearm. I know this may be a tough little quiz, but which one is a toy and which one is a cop-killer? Is it the plastic one with the red warning label and bright orange tip? Or is it the jet black rifle made of stamped steel? hrmmmm
You totally missed the point, if I am handling a gun safely, when is it ever on my person and in view of anybody else? Either its in my home or in an approved place to shoot it. A police officer is not surprised when he goes to a firing range and guns are present. He is not surprised when he goes to batting cages and people have baseball bats. He should not be surprised when he goes to an airsoft field and sees airsoft guns. Also, what on earth is there to stop me from painting the muzzle of an actual gun blaze orange and applying a warning label? Literally nothing. I have talked to police officers on this exact subject, and they all agree that regardless of what it looks like any gun type object will be treated like a firearm. Having an orange tip on your gun gets you the exact same treatment as not having an orange tip when it comes to this scenario.
So, what your saying is, you play in an area where cops never are/there isnt any crime ever. In all honesty i do like airsoft, but the fact that people take the orange tip off is irresponsible as fuck, it exists for a reason. By the way, congrats on violating state laws, especially if you live in cali.
because i play at airsoft fields, and don't play in my backyard or out in the forest like an idiot. state law says that airsoft guns only need orange tips when sold or shipped, if that wasn't the case then the hundreds of people that go to my fields would be arrested.
On topic: i never could figure out why the metal on the turret was wavy like that. Any particular reason?
That's the zimmerit, it was a German metal coating designed to help stop magnetic anti tank mines from activating.
I'm going to need you to stop what you're doing, destroy your toys, and never pick up a real firearm, as you have no idea what you're talking about.
how is only taking out my "toys" when i want to use them irrational, and how is that reflective of how i'll treat real guns?
Because you never bothered to learn the rules and regulations regarding their markings and use, god help you if you had to wade through actual gun laws.
taking the orange tip off, which impairs how i play and in some cases made my guns unusable, is bad? it's an airsoft gun, which i only use at the airsoft field or in my bedroom if i'm cleaning or fixing it. i don't carry it in public, i don't shoot it at animals or people outside of my window. i'd say i'm doing a better job following the law than the kids who you see in the news who carried their toys out in the streets where cops are and shit.. [editline]27th October 2013[/editline] like, seriously. the laws i am violating have nothing to do with the safety of me or other people. taking my orange tip off isn't like violating actual gun laws for actual guns at all. removing the tip isn't like converting my AR to shoot full auto, it's not like leaving my real guns in a safe loaded and in reach of children, and it's not like carrying your weapon in public without a license.
That's the zimmerit, it was a German metal coating designed to help stop magnetic anti tank mines from activating.
Keep in mind that the Germans were the only ones who used magnetic mines. The Zimmerit was pretty useless. [editline]28th October 2013[/editline]
Just because it's not hurting anyone, doesn't make it right. It is indeed for your safety, and for the safety of law enforcement. Also airsoft weapons are soon to fall under the atf, who have explicitly stated orange tips are mandatory, better to have one now, than get fucked for it later.
seriously? Thats good. Can't wait to see a bunch of airshitlords get prison time and fines for acting like idiots.
A lot of folks hate it for no reason other than the fact that they aren't real guns and therefore have the compulsive urge to insult anybody who enjoys using it. The whole point of airsoft is to shoot it up with your buddies without killing them.
It isn't even that funny in the end because you can't feel the tiny little pellets, except on naked skin perhaps... Which is why I always wanted to go play paintball or something with light clothing like shorts, a T-shirt and a mask covering my eyes/face and that's it. Would be pretty rad probably.
buy simunition?
Except simunition still has the capacity to kill someone unless you wear all the appropriate safety equipment. Not to mention its expensive. And exclusive. etc.
Actually your post is a great explanation if why we call it airshit. You have a realistic looking weapon, and you removed the only feature that proves from a distance that the weapon isnt real.
What's stopping someone from putting an orange tip on a real weapon? An orange tip really doesn't prove a weapon is not real.
Less talk about airsoft and jerks removing orange tips, more tonks And have a plane because why not 303rd fightersquadron stronk

BF-109 and FW-190 are German, and have any of you ever actually seen a German? Do not fuckin' want.
Agreed.
They called me outdated. They thought they could replace me. I was used on ghetto aircraft carriers to protect merchant convoys. I terrified submarine crews. At least the poles got things done, smacking down more bombers and fighters than any other fighter squadron Yes, I know it's a joke. And yeah, Hurricane was the masculine woman getting shit done while the Spitfire came in later and took all the glory. Allthough I disagree about the german planes. Dem square cockpits in dem 109's. Yet Hurricane will forever be in my heart <3

That's how dogfighting in a 109's cockpit feels, according to veterans who flew both those and Allied planes.

The conical and spherical hull would have made it harder for shells to penetrate because of the angles no matter where you shoot it. The issue was, it was nuclear powered in the 1950's, so crew life expectancy was like 3 hours and if it was destroyed with an ammo rack cook off or it's engine went up, thats going to send nuclear material everywhere. another issue was that the whole crew was stored in the turret, including Mr. Driver man. So it would have been disorienting as fuck to try and drive the tank if the turret isn't facing forward at all times. Also, welcome back Riller.

Three-man-crew of gunner, driver and rear driver, both the front driver and the gunner had the opposite member's controls, so it could in theory be manned by just a single guy, and the rear driver could drive it too, though practically only backwards if the others were wounded. Turned body to aim, and tilted barrel by hydraulics, not unlike a car in a black neighbourhood would. It's problems were numerous, though. -Couldn't fire on move -Hard to aim, unstabilized gun -Mediocre speed -Being Swedish -Relatively slow rate of fire -Relatively large compared to Soviet tanks that did have turrets (Which were tiny, though)

It's armor is also really really heavily angled, not impenetrable but I would think it would pretty tough to penetrate with modern guns of the time. I don't feel like working the math to calculate it's effective armor when you take into account the thickness and angle, but I'd bet it would thicker than you would think.
