Hey, so remember this abomination of a BAR?

It's no longer the dumbest and ugliest BAR in existence! Enter, the "HCAR"
[t]http://soldiersystems.net/blog1/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/HCAR-3.jpg[/t]
The HCAR - standing for :frogcool: Heavy Combat Assault Rifle :frogcool: is the pinnacle of stuffing WWII guns into modern plastic stocks for absolutely no reason. Seriously, it looks like a generic Magpul stock or something. Way to needlessly modernize a previously cool looking and way outdated firearm!
Gotta give it credit where it's due, though - it's not a mangled original BAR, but a modern manufactured copy (so I was actually wrong in a way, as I'm pretty sure the Jesse James BAR is actually made outta an original one, and thus remains the ugliest and dumbest), and it does weigh 12 lbs compared to the original's 20, and the furniture is 3D printed (using the laser sintering method - the same way they made that 3D printed metal 1911), so it's not just dumb and ugly, but still... why the hell would you need one? They only make semi-autos, and no military in the world would adopt a modernized BAR into service anyway, so the Combat designation is total bullshit. If you want a modern weapon, guess what, you can just get a modern assault rifle (with the added benefit of using ammo that doesn't actually cost an arm and a leg). If you want a BAR, the same company that made this also makes this, so you can, y'know, just get a BAR. It's just a weirdo mishmash of modern and old which just doesn't make sense.
Jesus Christ, my arms hurt looking at it! The BAR is the only weapon in recorded history that's heavier than the Thompson. Ow.
[editline]14th November 2013[/editline]
Upon further research, it's lighter than a regular BAR. Which means it's still in the ballpark of a Browning M2.

Not as dumb a feed system as the Type 11

I've talked about this one before, so I'll make it short. Like everything mechanical ever to come out of Japan that isn't a Toyota Hilux, it's kinda shit. Noticably it's feed system which (in the same spirit as the M249 of today and it's shitty little magwell under the belt feed) was meant to use the ammo carried by the regular infantryman, fed by a hopper in which you put in six regular Arisaka clips loaded with 6.5x50. Every fifth shot, it'd eject an empty clip together with the brass. It was meant to be used by two dudes, one firing and one constantly loading, giving it a theorethical magazine capacity of ∞ rounds, making it illegal in California, which was the main reason the Japanese never invaded mainland U.S.

Heh, it's even more silly than the Japanese Type 92 HMG used during WWII:

It was fed primarily with clips, whish gave the gun a very low rounds per minute capacity and apparently a lot of jamming issues as well.
A major problem with this weapon was the short strip. This led to a lowering in the rate of fire, and could cause jams in the loading mechanism. To alleviate this the Japanese oiled the rounds in the factories producing the ammunition. However, this caused the problem to escalate, as the grease picked up dirt during operations. This grime was then deposited directly into the breech mechanism, worsening the problem. This was a problem common among Japanese machine guns.
Battleship Haruna
Japanese WWII era superstructures were insanely tall. There's a reason for this, though. Japan was banned from building new warships in 1922, so come the 30's where naval warfare has evolved quite a bit, and they were rather outdated. What did Japan do? Update all their old ones. The tall superstructures, so called 'Pagoda masts', were filled with observation equipment and bigass spotlights to increase the ship's night-fighting capabilities. Too bad that by the time the US joined the war and Japan had an actual naval enemy to fight, radar targeting was a thing. So they were just tall and silly and outdated yet again.

So is there some correct method of demilling a gun?
... Other than apparently just fucking it up in whatever way you see fit with heavy milling machinery.
[editline]14th November 2013[/editline]
I mean, you can't really put those up for show, or sell them to a collector or anything..
Gotta give the japs credit though, cause they had some cool names for their ships

The point of demilling a firearm is to make it absolutely incapable of firing ever again. It's not to be sold to collectors or people who want to put them together again, it's meant to make them into scrap. The proper way to demill a receiver is typically 3 cuts across the receiver with either a torch or a bandsaw. The barrel will have at least (?)3 holes in it or some metal slag poured down it, or both. I've also seen the bolt face milled completely off.

Y'all bitches got nothing on the Partisan Navy.
Who a ship that can't fit into most of the shoreline? All you need is a fishing boat with some AA guns, and you're already sinking German torpedo boats and Italian battleships!

Italian battleships don't need your help to sink, they'll do it perfectly well on their own, thank you very much.
and you're already sinking Italian battleships!
What an accomplishment.
Here we see the Italian Spahgetti class frigate, the "Rotini" 30 minutes before she's scheduled to launch.

And lastly we have the "Lasagna" class escort craft, the "Marinara" after three years in active service.

Fixed that for ya :v:
Wilhelm Keitel was sitting in his office on the 10th of June, 1940; when suddenly, his secretary bursts open the door.
"Herr Generalfeldmarschall! Herr Generalfeldmarschall Keitel! Ve have breaking news!"
"Ja?" Kietel replied, looking up from his map of France. "Vas ist it?"
"Die Italiener hast joined ze war!" the secretary yelled, still out of breath from his rush.
"Not a problem, send eine division to ze Alpen to keep zem busy." Wilhelm calmly orderd.
"Nein nein! Zey are on our side!"
Keitel went pale and looked up. "Verdamt... Send zehn!"
[sp]Yes, I posted this joke a while ago. It's just always relevant, and always funny[/sp]

The Yamato was named for the ancient Yamato province, itself named for the Yamato people. 大和 itself, means "Great Harmony (or Peace, or Balance)", as it is the formation of "大", literally "Great", and "和", "Harmony" or "peace" or "balance", which was the character chosen by the Japanese when they decided that the original character used for Yamato (or Wa) wasn't cool enough. 大 was added on to refer to the country itself etc etc.
Yukikaze (雪風) translates to "Snowy Wind", and the Furutaka was named after Mount Furutaka, which resided behind the Imperial Japanese Navy Academy in Etajima, Hiroshima.
The Italian armies in Africa weren't retreating, they were only advancing ahead of the enemy!
