I'm not sure if that design is practical over the standard O/U configuration but hot damn it's cool.

Maybe I'm missing something, but could it be possible to load this thing on the side after each shot? Instead of just shooting twice, breaking open and reloading both?

These are pretty cool.

It'd be very possible, yes; since the second shell is loaded after the gun is closed.
Personally, if I were to make some dumb autoloading break-action hybrid, it'd be break to load magazine tube, instead of having to fiddle them in kinda awkwardly from the bottom. But it wouldn't really be an improvement over current fiddle-designs, so it'd be useless aside from novelty. Much like that one is.
I need to talk about the AAI ACR

so wait... its a nerf gun?
[editline]8th December 2013[/editline]
no it fires flachettes which is a friendly term for it fires fucking needles that rip through whatever
This looks like what the did in the SPIW program; they decided that the fiberglass dust created by firing the flechettes were bad for the soldiers health and eyesight.

M16A2E2. For the same project. It fires two bullets per bullet. That's 100% more bullet than a regular bullet.
Was that actually ever given the A2E2 designation? I've only ever seen it referred to as the Colt ACR.
Also, someone on gunbroker was selling a bunch of parts for one of those a while ago. Only stuff like handguards, grips, elcans, stocks and buffer tubes, though. It always makes me wonder where the hell people find stuff like that.

Colt ACR is a project designation, it means Colt's entry in the ACR project. The weapon itself is called M16A2E2, for M16A2, experimental version 2.

not what i was looking for, there was an anti-tank rocket that fired 2 rockets at once, but anyway here's a 4-barreled flamethrower missle launcher thingy

Apparently they're still being made, and they're listed on the weapons inventory of some US units, but I don't think there's actually any records of them being used.
Apart from Commando, that is.

apparently we removed it from official use before desert storm, but it has been listed as weapons used in Afghanistan which is why i asked

I find it hilarious that when the ACR project started, Colt was like "Hm, this is a project to make something really new to the market... fuck that, let's make a new bullet instead" and then patted themselves on the shoulder.

Well, it's not stupid. If they could have made it work as it should, they'd win by far, even if it was less effective; simply because it'd be a fraction of the cost.

Fun Fact: That photo was taken at the Smithsonian's Native American museum as part of an exhibit showing all these different weapons used by and against Native Americans, from sabres and wheel lock pistols to apparently that and g3's.
the russians to their credit like all their weapons they put in space claimed later on that it was only used for "atmospheric experiments"
Simply not true.
The Russians keep a triple barrelled gun which takes shotgun shells, rifle bullets and flares, and each Russian cosmonaut is trained to use it. Several rounds for each barrel are stored in a survival container in all Soyuz craft and on the MIR visits.
[t]http://www.jamesoberg.com/image/gun.jpg[/t]
The Russians land on land, so they have the gun (I could never find its name) in case of wildlife, and it has a machete in the stock too. Voskhod 2 was the only one that ever actually had to use it to fend off wildlife though.
I also read somewhere they might have a Makarov PMm in space, but I don't think so.
That gun has probably been reposted as many times as the clockwork toolbox (G11) has :v:

Yeah, I know it's been posted a lot, it's there to counter a bullshit claim.
It's hardly the coolest or ugliest, so no other reason for it to appear.
If we wanted cool, I'd go for the PB 6P9, but that's already somewhere here.

The point of the project was to make a rifle that was 100% better than the M16a2, so Colt thought the simplest way to do that was make an M16a2 that shot twice as much bullet per bullet, technically if it performed the same as the A2 in every regard, then it was performing twice as well since each round was two shots. Kind of cheating, but easier than designing a whole new rifle, and it retained compatibility with NATO standard ammo and magazines, features lacking from all the competing designs.

i was kinda refering to the fact that they launched at least one space station with a 23mm cannon, for "atmospheric testing purposes" even though theres not much science to be had from firing a gun at orbital velocities
ya the russians landed in siberia and kazakstan, but the pistol was never used except for one case where the crew landed in a snowstorm and the recovery crew couldn't get to them for a day, they spent the night in the capsule and allegedly fired that to scare off a bear
