Didn't mean to strike a nerve there, it just started as a joke I told a friend about the FAMAS and now it's the first thing I think of when I think "French rifles".
Here, have an old Lebel rifle:

There's something interesting about tube-mag bolt actions.
Ya know, I didn't think it was that hard to make an AK clone, Poland made the Tantal, the Finnish made the Valmet M62, Israel made the Galil, SA made the R4, and China made a working 5.56mm bullpup ak (Type 97)! There are guys building AKs by hand in the Khyber Pass, but India managed to fuck it up.
Technically speaking the Type-95 and Type-97 are bullpup Type-81 rifles, which are more akin to an AK with an SKS gas action slapped on.
However SA did make an actual 5.56 bullpup AK in the form of the CR-21:

This was built as a bullpup version of the R4, which in turn was built as a clone of the Galil, which in turn was built as a rechambering of the Valmet RK/M-62, which in turn was built as a modified Polish rifle, which in turn was built as a clone of the AKM, which in turn was built as an upgrade to the original AK-47. Convoluted chain of development, but still: working 5.56 bullpup AK.
China did also make actual bullpup AKs in the form of the Type-86S:

But to my knowledge these were only in 7.62x39.

Oh god, that thing, what's wrong with it?! At first, you see the trigger, cocking handle and the selector, and you're like "Hey, not a half-bad AK bullpup-job", but then you notice that the front sight is literally crudely milled off, to the point where it's not even smooth, and the front-grip comes straight off an AUG airsoft mold, and it only has a third of a buttpad, the other part just bare AK reciever. Jesus Christ.
Speaking of AUG, the new-ish AUG A3 SF variant is neat.

And the foregrip doubles as a safety, and triples as a charging handle (fold/unfold to engage/disengage safety, pull backward to cock). It's a rather interesting little weapon.
The hipoint 9mm cabines look like ass

A quick 'n dirty one: suppressors in unusual places!

We all know of the Nugget Revolver, but here's another revolver with a suppressor.

Which is also a sniper rifle. For some reason.
Also a suppressed barrey fiddy cal.

Actually surprisingly non-silly, if you think about it.
And a nugget with a suppressor.

Which isn't a suppressor at all, but everyone keeps ID'ing it as one. It's a cup rifle grenade launcher. The grenade it launches is the size of a fuckin' handball. Pretty cray.
And while on the topic of launching handball-sized explosives at your foes...

Have a RAW (Rifleman's Assault Weapon) launcher on an M16. It turns your ol' Jam'o'matic into a fuckin' HEAT rocket launcher.
And off this branch of crazy rockets mounted under M16, we can just as well mention the McDonnell Douglas Scorpion.
[t]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4057/4483816022_c2b2184776_o.jpg[/t]
Which more or less is a rocket launcher fitted to the M203 QD mount. Stupid thing about it is, it's single-use only and not meant to be carried on the weapon itself, so you'd be carrying something the size of a LAW-72, but with more prep time that can't be fired accurately on it's own. Quite silly.

Now that's a sexy suppressed carbine.
I found another fine example of Indian smallarms engineering:

Yeah, someone thought it was a good idea to convert SMLE rifles into single-shot .410s for use as "riot shotguns".
In their defense their idea of a "rioter" was Mohandas Gandhi.
I'd use it because sexy but it's clearly nothing more than a range toy.
Bloody hell, bloody hell, bloody-

Well I guess that if you're facing rioting rodents in small groups it could work well maybe?

Most people won't rush police lines on account of the fact that it's 'just' a .410. If a glorified paintball gun firing rubber balls can be considered suitable for riot control, I think a shotgun actually firing lead pellets will do fine.
Remember that the Israelis use .22s for riot control.

Pretty sure the reason it's there is to let the operator know it's cocked.
Pretty sure the reason it's there is to let the operator know it's cocked.
For the most part absolutely, but there's no ignoring that at some point the designers said "Hey, lets put an arrow on the front of this, you know, just to be sure."

Is it just me, or does the angle of the foregrip on the 93R look like it would feel better in the hand than a traditional vertical grip?

Yeah, but here's the kicker - when you happen upon a crowd that's not 'most people' (or just really, really pissed) you're kind of boned if you only have a single-shot .410.

I don't suppose those white dots in the upper handle / slide are actually narrow holes drilled through the weapon?
[editline]30th December 2013[/editline]
Nope, but what are they?
