What are your guys' thoughts on the mechs from Titanfall?
I think they're slightly too agile for what they are, although I'm used to battletech stuff where they're lumbering gunplatforms. But apart from that, they're not bad.

Also, that's colloquially referred to as "boating", for example mounting slas on all available hardpoints on a 'mech and it becomes a "laserboat". It's kind of comparable to the WH40k Imperial Guard joke about one lasgun doing "diddly" and fifty doing "a whole lotta diddly".
since were on the subject of mechs, here's heavy arms from gundam
Now that's just silly.
all the missiles and mini guns, either way, it was pretty entertaining to see it in action
since were on the subject of mechs, here's heavy arms from gundam
Wow, that looks even more silly and unlogical than some of the 40K Ork creations. It has ammo for one salvo, then it has to return to base to rearm.
It's kind of comparable to the WH40k Imperial Guard joke about one lasgun doing "diddly" and fifty doing "a whole lotta diddly".
But a whole lotta diddly is still squat.
But a whole lotta diddly is still squat.
Nah, it's actually quite a lot.
I'm not too damn fond of mechs, but if I have to choose, I prefer this style [t]http://www.fpsdaily.com/screenshots/4/2142EU_Mech.jpg[/t] [t]http://static1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121004050641/warhammer40k/images/a/a8/Dreadnought02.jpg[/t] [t]http://static1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091026230354/cnc/images/c/c8/Titan_CC3_DevRend1.jpg[/t] over the humanoid ones. Why would you make a vehicle with hands for holding weapons, instead of integrating the weapons into the vehicle? [editline]4th January 2014[/editline] Actually, the C&C Titan mech is prolly my favourite of all time. It makes a little sense. Don't get me wrong, mechs are stupid, mechs are waaaaaay stupid, mechs are full-powered pants-on-head retarded. But in an alternative universe where mechs aren't stupid because the way superior idea of 'tanks' and 'shoulder-launched rockets' never came around, the idea of mounting a fuck-off gun on a high chassis makes sense, for getting a good field of direct fire.
Wow, that looks even more silly and unlogical than some of the 40K Ork creations. It has ammo for one salvo, then it has to return to base to rearm.
Well keep in mind that these are guided missiles, so there's no real reason for him to shoot all of those at once; its not like an Apache shoots all of its hellfire missiles at a single tank. At max I'd assume a single cluster of rockets per target, meaning he's got enough for quite a few targets.
Why would you make a vehicle with hands for holding weapons, instead of integrating the weapons into the vehicle?
I'd assume its so they can also use the hands as hands, and pick up things besides weapons, as well as the ability to rapidly change its armament. 08th MS Team had this play in a lot by actually giving their mechs backpacks to hold different weapons and more ammunition.
Oh, more cool-but-utterly-stupid-because-mechs-are-retarded-but-at-least-these-aren't-utter-bullshit-designs-I-guess mechs!
First introduced in the European Theatre by British forces in 1943, the Mk1 was an introduction that changed the battlefield. As unreliable and temperamental as the first tanks in WW1 were, the Mk1s still functioned as an incredibly versatile, all-purpose weapon. This particular model is fitted with a 105mm howitzer. Key Features- - Modular clamp hands for multiple weapon mounting options. - Hatch placed on rotating head. - Light machine gun mounting for a close quarters anti-personnel role. - Arm joints covered in a jacket to prevent the elements from fouling operation. - Legs are always plagued with problems; an escort accompanies with spare parts, and repair and maintenance engineers.

The Third Reich’s answer to the British MBW is fully committed to a fearsome anti-armour role. Loud and lumbering, this behemoth crashes through the underbrush with its mere presence instilling dread in enemy tank crews. While proving highly effective against American Shermans, and the Soviet KV-1s and T-34s, it's lack of speed and maneuverability made it desperately vulnerable to anti-tank infantry. Key Features- -Cannon terminates in a tightened muzzle break that employs a Gerlich effect. -Standard tank issued entrenching tools and tarpaulin. -Free hand clamp used as self righter, and to carry extra loads of equipment. -Hatch leads to small compartment for a one man surveillance and communications crewman.

Brought late into the war by the Americans, and first deployed from the landing craft on the beaches of Normandy, this robot benefited from a design already tested by years of application in war. Originally intended to fulfill an anti-aircraft role, the Hausen was found to be an invaluable aid in the urban combat taking place on the long road to Berlin. Its four guns proved a boon to Allied troops with their ability to lay down a withering curtain of lead to tear through sniper roosts. Key Features- -Rotating turret. -Extremely large forearms used for added stability and for breaching walls and barricades in urban environments. -Secondary sighting system aimed at the sky for an anti-aircraft role. -Set of four 35mm flak cannons. -Plated skirt protects shoulder joints and allow for quick servicing.
All credit to Keith Thompson, the best friggin' design artist on this side of the galaxy. [editline]4th January 2014[/editline] Also, some WWI style ones he did for a book. I like the short, fat style of the main one.
I think they're slightly too agile for what they are, although I'm used to battletech stuff where they're lumbering gunplatforms. But apart from that, they're not bad.
Personally I think it's just a different way of looking at a design. While I for one prefer mechs in the style of what Riller posted, where they're basically bipedal tanks, the way Titanfall does it of having titans effectively be scaled up infantry is an interesting style of its own. Although from an actual practicality standpoint I'd rather take the tanky ones.
I suppose if you need to have a massive cannon that can move across land you'd most likely opt for a giant walking robot 2 or so legs would take up less room than miles long tank treads. With the legs you can choose where you step so you don't squish the livey bits, with treads you just crush everything, then you need to reverse and do turns and that just ruins everything. But other than that, mechs are purely psychological warfare, it's more LOOK AT THAT FUCKING THING, IT'S RUNNIN' RIGHT AT YA.

Which is a rather interesting idea in and of itself.

Oh god, I knew it wasn't good, but jesus christ! You literally have a better sustained rate of fire with a single-barre break-action.

That's what happens when you make a cheap stripped down version of a design that's already more than a little questionable in capability.

I wouldn't call ejection system as much as a... Ejection jury-rig. Basically, it had another port on the other side of the drum, without a cover, so the recoil would shake the empty shell out after firing.

I wouldn't operate with that if I where you. Rather take something with a tad more mag capacity.
You guys can't talk about both mechs and Orks and not post a pic of a Gargant or a killa kan. I joined kinda late to the whole ork-thing, but have I understood correctly that if enough orks think something is gonna work, it will? Is that like the explanation as to how all their crazy stuff actually works? Unrelated: Always loved how the gauss-rifle in Crysis looked
