The personnel halting and stimulation response rifle (PHASR) is a prototype non-lethal laser developed by the U.S. Department of Defense. Its purpose is to temporarily disorient and blind a target. Blinding laser weapons have been tested in the past, but were banned under the 1995 UN Protocol on Blinding Laser Weapons, which the United States acceded to on 21 January 2009.
With a cylinder choke, you can go about a foot and a half out from the muzzle before pellets hitting the tube gets to be a concern.
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
You will, of course, get a dirty-ass tube-extension due to carbon fouling getting all over it, but it's nothing that'll harm it at all.
Generally speaking, the only advantage gained by using a shorter barrel and magazine tube is lighter weight and decreased overall length. If you're going to lengthen the magazine tube, there's little reason not to use a barrel of the corresponding length as well.
Whenever you see a mag tube longer than the barrel, nine times out of ten it's just a civilian shooter that wants an extra shell or two so stuck an extension on. It's not something you see on combat shotguns.

Of course not. I was just pointing out that end of barrel doesn't need to be end of mag. All three pics I posted are competition-shooters for whom it makes a lot of sense, since their guns aren't meant for fighting, they're sports equipment. Same with the double-muzzle-braked, double-extended-mag, double-red-dot-sighted Saiga 12 I posted a page or two back.
Speaking of tube magazine lengths, what reason is there to ever have the mag not reach the end of the barrel? I suppose weight might be a concern but I don't think it'd make that much of a difference.

Real reasons? None, really. Legal reasons? Some, in places. For extra stupid, however...

See the ribbed bit halfway down the magtube? That's a shell limiter. It has a full-length tube, with a limiter in it. Because fuck you.

That shell limiter is such a dumb idea
also the center's stock hurts my head
Or the Sawed-Off Shotgun, with Coin shots. It's fucking beautiful, and the damage is insane.
Yeah, if you're not using a sawed-off in Fallout, you're not doing it right. :v: (unless you're punching dudes.)
Also, here's a weird little thing I stumbled upon:

Double Tap "tactical" pocket pistol. Available in .45 and 9x19, with a Titanium or Aluminium frame. Barrel porting optional. And it holds two extra rounds in the grip, too. Will run you a minimum of $499,99. The aluminium one weighs twelve ounces when unloaded.
It looks fucking scary to shoot.

Center one is a photoshop of a collapsed top one made to look like a full.

That is pretty much the ultimate weapon in FO3. If your small guns skill is about 50/60+, this thing will kill just about anything in one or two shots.
The Tri-Beam laser rifle is also pretty damn rad

Surprisingly enough, they've got a video on their site and George Lucas's long lost older thinner brother seems to take it just fine:

i would think shells length would be the metric to determine how long the mag tube can go, i mean if the next shell awkwardly sticks past the front of the barrel, they should retract it back 1 shot so it fits

I would rather have an inch of awkward mag tube than a shell less when I need it.

Or just have an inch longer barrel??

You'll see this on civilian shotguns, where there are capacity restrictions or lighter weight is better than extra shells, and the barrels tend to be a lot longer, but it's rare to see on combat shotguns. Police shotguns will sometimes have the shorter magazine tube because they're essentially converted civilian guns, or the lighter weight is better on patrol.
Handling a tube-fed shotgun in combat is very different from handling a rifle. The magazine capacity is less important because generally, any time you're not shooting, you're reloading, and it takes the same amount of time to feed a shell no matter how many it holds.

The 1860 Henry Rifle.
A pretty cool rifle because of it's historical significance, combined with it's aesthetics. Unfortunately a handguard on the barrel was only introduced in the updated 1866 version of the rifle, so this version required gloves to operate effectively.

particularly nasty wounds if I remember correctly
Seems like they'd deliver a pretty damn fine first-strike wound, but if you get into an actual knife-fight using one, you're screwed.
The Fairbarin-Sykes is my favourite fighting knife.

It's just so smooth and sleek and stylish.
But Riller! What's the difference between a fighting-knife and a combat knife? Why isn't muh KABAR your favourite?
That's a good question, Billy! You see, a fighting knife is a knife which, much like a bread knife or a butter knife, serves one purpose. Fighting. You stab or cut people with them. They don't serve much practical purpose outside of that. A combat knife, on the other hand, does a lot of things! Take the AK's bayonet, for example.

It got a lot of things going for it! It got a cutting blade and a pointed stabby-tip like you'd expect, but it also got a serrated back for sawing stuff with, and a hole near the tip for clipping onto the scabbard to turn it into a wire-cutter, and a reinforced, squared-off pommel to use as a hammer! It's like a Swiss army knife, except it goes on the tip of a gun too! Clever, eh? A combat knife's primary purpose isn't to stab or cut as much as it is do everything you'd ever need a knife to do. Including stab-cutting people.
can confirm AK bayo wire cutter is amazing
I stumbled onto a little history of Polski AK rifles and found something rather humerus:

Seems whenever a rifle with this style of stock gets posted someone here mentions how flimsy it looks, well I came across an article on the development of the Tantal and I found out that the whole reason these stocks were adopted was because these:

Underfolding stocks would break from the recoil of firing a rifle grenade, and the "coathangers" didn't. So yeah, that flimsy looking wire is actually tougher than the underfolders.
Apparently the Polish really liked their rifle grenades, even their Krink

was designed to be rifle-grenade capable. Also that thing has the weird raised sights because they wanted it to use the same dust-covers as the full size rifles, and they didn't want the full size rifles to use hinged dust covers.
Oh and early prototype Tantals had a built in bipod and a weird hand-guard
[t]http://www.forgottenweapons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/proto-tantal_1.jpg[/t]
And yes, that one's chambered in a different cartridge, over the development of the Tantal they went through five different cartridges.
Did someone say rifle grenades?

Makes sense. The simpler design would have a lot more flex to it, and it's mounted in-line with the muzzle instead of on the sides of the reciever, so the strain isn't being put as much on the hinge itself.
Ill let you guys guess what this chopper is. (No thumbnail peeking please)

Don't use links that actually have the name in the filename. Especially wikipedia links since you can go to the file page and see what articles use it. [sp]Dhruv[/sp]
