I agree with the rest of your post but basic physics shows that this is nonsense.

Well, you won't be knocked down from force alone, due to obvious fucking reasons, but you can be knocked over by the force together with how your body reacts to it. If you're the kinda person who goes ragdoll when you're hurt, then that'll do it. Granted, any other heavy impact would, too.
Cant post a picture right now but The DeLisle Carbine is cool as fuck
1: There are rules and regulations towards war, it prevents it from being total savagery. The Hague Convention of 1899 banned expanding ammo in war because the objective of a battle is not to wound your enemy, it's to eliminate them or run them off. An expanding round causes worse injuries than if you had been shot with a FMJ. My brother was shot in the arm in Afghanistan. If the enemy had been using expanding ammo, his arm would be so fucked up that it would be completely unusable.
2. Getting shot in the heart with anything bigger than a .22 is most likely going to be instant death. No 12-15 second last stand before you turn into a corpse, just the same effect if you had been shot in the head. Hydrostatic shock from a large or really fucking fast round can rupture every artery in your brain, causing severe brain damage and immediate unconsciousness. There's enough energy in a .45 that even with a vest, you can get knocked on your ass by one. That same amount of energy can literally explode your heart and send a shockwave to your brain that explodes it too.

No, getting shot in the heart is not instant death; I have read about plenty of individuals who were fatally wounded and continued to fight, even one who was shot through the heart.
Read this, it took the officer 14 rounds of .45 ACP (hollow points, not ball ammo) to stop an individual pumped on adrenaline (no other drugs). Six of those were in fatal areas:
"In this free-for-all, the assailant had, in fact, been struck 14 times. Any one of six of these wounds — in the heart, right lung, left lung, liver, diaphragm, and right kidney — could have produced fatal consequences…“in time,” Gramins emphasizes."

Also, understand that the Hague convention was in 1899, countries were still fighting each other with fancily dressed infantry with tactics that slaughtered them in WWI. We aren't fighting another country, we're fighting primarily non-state actors or countries that don't abide by the Geneva and Hague conventions. This isn't gentlemanly warfare anymore, and while our tactics have evolved and represent this fact, we are hamstrung by outdated regulations.
Your brothers arm would have been wrecked if that FMJ bullet smashed through the bone. An expanding or fragmenting bullet wouldn't have done significantly more damage to his arm because it is too shallow an area for sufficient expansion.
.45 ACP won't knock you on your ass, conversely, a rifle round (say 7.62x54r) to a level IV plate will:

That gun is really cool although note you did post a picture of a Denix replica. I have an eye for spotting those.
The real thing looks cooler.

1/10, mace(?) is average but those are executioner's axes which are actually horrible at their job of removing heads, they just look cool because they are big, but are rubbish at their job
The Bardiche was used in executions but i've seen bearded axes more used for that. Reason why they were used, I imagine, was their intimidating looks and the fact that they rely primarily on their weight to deal blows. I think the Russians used them at one point for their military.

Dood Bardiche are russian poleaxes, and they most certainly weren't used for ceremonial execution.

Yup, SMLE converted to fire .45ACP from modified 1911 magazines, and with a massive suppressor integrated into the barrel. It makes more noise to cycle this thing's bolt than it does to fire.

See that button on the side of the hand-guard? That's the trigger.
Sleek, powerful and intimidating.

That MG3 would be a lot cooler without all that shit bolted to it; you could still give it a joystick like minigun grip in the back and chainsaw grip in the front.

I think it's steadycam and motorbike parts actually, or was it the sentry guns in Aliens that were made from those?

The Smartgun is an MG42 with steadycam rig and motorcycle grips, yes. The whole steadycam rig isn't all that bad in theory, except it requires you to expose your entire body to fire, and only works standing and unaimed. :v:

Yeah, you're supposed to use it with a HUD equipped eyepiece or visor, so you stare at your target and the gun does most of the aiming for you, and yeah, they're not great for engaging anything that'll shoot at you, but good for situations where you need a lot of bullets and stopping power and be able to run your ass off :v:

I remember in the old AVP game, the Smartgun was absurdly good due to it's point-and-click nature. It'd target itself, and you'd just hold down the trigger.
Been meaning to upload these for a while, I went to the War and Peace: Revival show last year, and got a couple of pictures. I've gone for generic names rather than models, as I tend towards uselessness.
Let us start with a T34 and T34-85

Not sure about colour authenticity, though I could be wrong - some of these guys really knew their stuff. Here's a PzIII

Here is the werfer of nebels, also an MG-42 in the fore and many other things.

I believe it's a Chieftain? Past WW2 of course, but more tanks is always good.
[t]http://imgur.com/M6WAPas.png[/t]
And to finish, I present... the Rugged Robin!
[t]http://imgur.com/Dcf2Z9j.png[/t]
Sorry it's a bit of a dump. I've a couple more pictures, and sorry the quality in all of them is a bit lacking. I believe they might do the WaP show again, since it got such a good reception last year, it was huge. I wish I'd taken more images. I think there was a nutter who brought a KV-1 over, and I got to go inside a few too. Hundreds of jeeps. The Russians and Germans were probably the best imitators - they put in the most effort with the German camp and the Russians had a small city-scape they built as a camp, BMP and all.
Strap two miniguns to the Rugged Robin and watch it fall to the side Mister Bean style.

Looks pretty stable with those half-tracks to be honest:
