High capacity revolvers of the 19th century. Centerfire: [t]http://www.horstheld.com/541-b.jpg[/t][t]http://www.horstheld.com/541-c.JPG[/t][t]http://www.horstheld.com/541-e.JPG[/t] .22 caliber (not necessarily .22LR) French 30-shot 2-barreled revolver. Possibly a prototype built as a patent example. The magazine was advanced by hand rather than mechanically. This specific gun fired a 9mm pinfire cartridge, completely different of course from 9mm Parabellum in load and dimensions. [t]http://www.horstheld.com/39770-a.JPG[/t][t]http://www.horstheld.com/39770-b.JPG[/t][t]http://www.horstheld.com/39770-k.JPG[/t] 12-shot cylinder, 7mm caliber. I've always found it odd that there was a major movement/fad around the Lefaucheux pinfire system that affected much of the world in many pistols, rifles, and shotguns, and yet there is little to no mention of it in modern day literature, film, and TV. Pinfire revolvers were also used in the Civil War. The Union bought Lefaucheux revolvers for officers midway through the war.
Federal Purchases of pin fire revolvers: LEFAUCHEUX marked 12mm revolvers, 11,833 pieces probably in the serial # 25,000 - 37,000
[t]http://www.horstheld.com/pinfire-c.jpg[/t]
The pin fire revolvers are similar the American made "Saturday Night Specials"; inexpensive and produced in big numbers in the 1870s. At the time there were some 400 "kitchen table gun-makers" beside a few bigger factories involved. To avoid paying royalties to Lefaucheux the majority of the guns show no maker's name, only the mandatory proof stamps. Most are Belgian made and show the ELG proof. Many were sold through the European mail-order companies. The calibers are European metric named calibers, and the only correct names are 5mm, 7mm, 9mm, 12mm and very rare 15mm.
Does anyone know what they fire at the olimpics atm?
On that note, Revolving shotgun, don't know the name: Josselyn type revolver. This one made in Russia. Also called a "chain" gun, but nontheless a type of revolver. A photo and drawing used in the Josselyn patent, of the Josselyn "chain" gun revolver. You will note that directly under the photo, under the name "H.S. Josselyn", it even calls it a "Revolver". So whether called a "chain gun" or not, it was still a revolver. Another view of the Josselyn "chain gun" revolver. These types of "chain gun" revolvers were the precursors to belt fed weapons. I see no reason why a reproduction black powder revolver, or a modern revolver for that matter, couldn't have its cylinder removed and a "chain" charger or cartridge carrier installed in place of the normal cylinder and advanced using the same mechanism that advances the cylinder. Cumbersome? Of course, but what an interesting and unusual range toy it would be. Depends on the firearms regs of the country; usually its .22lr or .22 air rifle, but for the 2012 Summer Olympics in the U.K. the pentathlon used laser pistols.
Wouldn't you shatter your jaw from the weapon's recoil combined with the chin strap?
Its probably stupid heavy being all steel, but it also has a back strap to keep it in place. It would be fatiguing to wear; heavy, bulky and awkward, and would probably stress your neck after awhile, plus firing it.
Or kill yourself because you're standing in the blast radius :v:
Thats what foxholes are for. Their range was 1.25 miles and you're looking at a fatal radius of .25 miles.
Thats what foxholes are for. Their range was 1.25 miles and you're looking at a fatal radius of .25 miles.
Just cause you didn't die immediately doesn't mean you wont want to soon after.
thats why you launch it then dip [editline]15th February 2014[/editline]
Or kill yourself because you're standing in the blast radius :v:
its range was further than blast radius, it's the radiation that gives you cancer that the operator has to worry about.
Just cause you didn't die immediately doesn't mean you wont want to soon after.
Foxhole for the blast radius (quite small), .25 mile fatal radiation zone at detonation. Of course you want to skidaddle after launch; I even stated it in my initial comment: "get cancer whilst nuking the enemy".
