Why would you tacticool guns like that?
Some guns don't look too bad like it, honestly. Most should be just left alone though.
If that over/under didn't have the rails on the side I'd like it a lot.

Well, New Vegas has a satellite based laser weapon that takes 24 hours to charge, if that counts.

Why wouldn't you? Sure, it's ugly, but they're not expensive or historical pieces. They came out of the factory looking like they do there. Besides, double-barrels with cylinder chokes and novelty loads are the most fun you can have with your pants off; why not slap some rails on your fuck-around gun?
Or on a more serious note, super-cheap home defense. 18" two-shot shotgun with a strong flashlight and a red dot ain't nothing to scoff at. Absurdly reliable, fairly lightweight, and super easy to use. A 12-ga will kill you equally dead if fired from that as it will from a 870 or M4.
Or skeet shooting. In a competition all about quickly taking aim at a moving target, who wouldn't want a red dot to make it easier?
There's lots of reasons to do it. There's no reason not to. I'd be mad if they were 50+ year old Holland and Holland guns, but they're not. They're factory new. Let folks do as folks want.

the designer dude at mossberg threw these in just for shits and giggles, they decided to give selling 'em a shot, and when they actually turned out to be selling pretty well, they just kept selling 'em 'cause hey, more $$$
also, don't tell me a light el cheapo .22 lever-action with a cheap optic wouldn't be fun as hell

Yeah, I'm cool with that. I'm all for firing up the hate-train and shitting my pants in rage when I see a bubba'd hex receiver nugget or a MLP'd up 98k, but if you slap shit on a weapon still in production and/or make it from the factory with all that shit on it, I really can't give much of a shit. It's just innocent fun.
