only stargate could ever kit that gun out to make it look goood
Never understood why they had such a massive hard-on for the P90. I mean, liking the gun is one thing, but their love for that weapon was so intense that they let Teal'c dual wield them at times.
The in-universe explanation for the move from the MP5s to the P90s was that the P90 was far better at engaging Jaffa warriors, due to being able to easily pierce their (hilariously sheet metal, which should also be penetrated by MP5s) armour
Then they made Teal'c even more of a badass, so he gets to carry two of them.

Well most recon SG teams just use SMG's as standard, and I think the actors liked the P90 a lot since it was less bulky than than the MP-5 they used in the beginning.
Also they make it look pretty cool.
A) its a game, an arcade shooter at that. Jamming mechanisms aren't a thing.
B) its a sci-fi universe with giant robots. That is a giant robot weapon.
So it's cool for you guys to sit there and critisize an assault rifle and point out it's flaws and the stupid magwell etc but it's not okay for me to point out a glaring flaw in how a grenade launcher would work?
oh my
That is definitely how picatinny rails work.

you ever did that thing at primary school? where you take a ruler, lay it down on a table so that a part of it sticks out and then hold it down with one hand and kinda, I dunno, strum it with the other so that it vibrates?
well I really wanna do that with this picatinny rail
My Beretta carbine has a silly little rail that extends out front the front kinda like that. Its fine for a flashlight. Id never put a laser on it. [sp]maybe a grenade launcher[/sp]

Less bulky, more futuristic, and ejects shells downward, they had some trouble with hot brass flying around when they used MP5 SMGs.

the actors could just hang it from their vests instead of having to lug it around, also they explain because of its high rate of fire let them counter the jafa's wave tactics and it wasn't really big so people didn't often think of it as an intimidating weapon since the jafa had those huge blasting sticks and everybody underestimated them until they got a wall of lead
When you think about it all of the non-combat teams (of which SG1 is as it's a reconnaissance and 'first contact' team) are armed with PDW while the combat teams have M4/M16s, Minimis and M60s

Oh don't forget the Spas-12,s/AA-12 shotguns they used in some episodes. Or the launchers.
It's nice how SG has everything explained and it actually makes sence
It's so rare these days in tv series

Mostly, anyway, some of the sci-fi stuff was a bit iffy, but all the military stuff seemed pretty convincing to me. It gave it a nice contrast between the two, kind of what Xenonauts does.
Speaking of Xenonauts, I like their guns, fairly nice hard sci-fi stuff as well as things from both sides of the height of the Cold War.

It has a fantastic atmosphere to it too, especially way your forces are portrayed;

Mass Effect and Warframe guns suck Butt
Bullets for lyfe
I don't see the issue with people customizing guns beyond what you guys would like.
I'd like to remind you that there exists thousands of other untouched exemplars of most of those guns, and that you have absolutely no reason to freak out about one of them being changed up.

while it's obviously not destroying all history forever, it's rather silly from a practical standpoing in a "smh" kind of way - taking the thompson modification for example, these were SWAT people somehow fixated on "modernizing" a heavy, bulky 45 smg while there were dozens of actually modern alternatives that could beat both the original and the "modern" thompson any day with no problems.... probably for cheaper too
also the blank-shooting prank was probably scripted like the rest of the show

it was cas the writers were military fiction writers as well as the actual u.s. and Canadian militaries helped out with the show, the scenes from in front of chyane mountain were filmed with the military permission and they got f16s for a couple episodes and many actual military personnel were in the show as military personnel including the head of the air force once I think for a cameo
i know im late to the sons of guns discussion but why exactly does this thread hate them? other than the weird ass modifications they've done to a lot of guns, that is
It's just general hatred of reality TV, but that show has guns, so people in here get tempted to watch it.
Found this:

The bolt assembly of the G11 is confusing beyond measure.

As I said before, it's actually not, it's just extremely unconventional since almost every other rifle is built on back-forward motion, while the G11 is built on rotary motion.
Learning the G11 is like learning a second language, once you get used to it being completely unlike the stuff you already know, it actually makes some sense.
Some things from one of my usual sources..
SAR-4800
A seldom seen FAL variant that was imported by Springfield Armory back in the day. Not exactly an FNC, the SAR-4800 is chambered in 5.56x45/.223 and uses standard AR-15 magazines. They’re much harder to find than the standard FAL’s, making them rather collectable and costly. The first and last images show an AR-15 20 round magazine inserted, which gives it a more FAL-like appearance when compared to the 30 rounder being installed. This particular example is for sale, though priced rather high at $2,495. At that cost you could buy an FN SCAR 16S.
And for some reason, I'm REALLY digging this;

Because as has been shown fairly recently, they butcher guns, make them worse than they already were (didn't the Thompson actually gain weight?) and have zero concepts of guns safety as shows by them firing blanks in a shop for shits and giggles. And in general they're tossers.
just in an attempt to try to aleviate this

an over simplified diagram of what that clockwork magic actually does, its no different than the p90's unique clips, just the ignition is a bit different as well they had to avoid cookoffs since as you can see it'll either shoot through the bottom of the gun or out the front
[editline]1st March 2014[/editline]
if the g11 was a conventional gun it would be no more complicated than the p90's clip but in this case they had the extra problem of dealing with the caseless ammunition

If you say clips but you meant mags people will know and you don't need to bring it up unless they're being a pompous asshole at the moment.
