I like that model except for the tacked on AR15 grip.
It's like, everything on it is original and shit and then the creator just went into lazymode 3000 and put a generic grip on it.

Also, the receiver blocks the iron sight.
But yeah, I like the open action of the AR-2 design, how you can see the 'firing pin' hitting the thingamabob with every shot.
the HL2 Enhancement Mod guys burnt a few billion brain cells trying to figure out how the hell the feeding/reloading system works though
I loved how powerful it was and it's secondary attack as well, especially in confined spaces. The only downside it had, to me, is how little ammo it could hold. I'm sure its ammo box thing could hold more than just a few of those little magazines(?)

I've always thought it was an amazingly cool design executed in an amazingly terrible way. Really though, if they just shifted some parts around it could have still been salvageable at least. Also having Gordon actually grip it with both hands might have helped a bit.

Yep, should be closer to like 30/300 in terms of total ammo. The revolver did go down from 6/36 to 6/12 too between HL1&2, so maybe it was just for game-plays sake?

There've been two notable attempts to salvage it, if I recall correctly. One removes the autoloader basically and makes it hand fed, and the other adds ironsights, a supporting hand, and a slight change to the animations so the spent plug dosn't just magically roll out of view. They both have their merits but neither quite nails it in my opinon.
EDIT: Here they are:

But man am I big lover of the AR-2. Love the whole energy plug design, the autoloader is pure smex - and the dark blued finish is gorgous. I still can't get its signature out of my head. Ruh-tuh-tuh-tuh-tuh - beeeeeep. Doo. Bip.
Still disappointed Loadout dosn't have weapon color customization yet. So I can't make my drum fed electro pulse rifle look like an AR2 on steroids.
Should make a fallout mod of it <_<
So many things wrong with that second video D:
1st video, why does he use his hand to help stick in the new slug?
2nd video, why does he move the gun like a fool while the gun is reloading?

I always liked the AR2, dunno why really. I remember reading something about the combine overwatch trying to adapt their technology with existing firearms so combine soldiers had a proper tool instead of running around with mounted guns as striders & gunships, resulting in this weird contraption we know as of today.

wow that makes much more sense...using actual cartridges per shot instead of using one cartridge for a bunch of shots
desecrated the original concept 0/10
desecrated the original concept 0/10
true but it does explain why the combine use big magazines of those carriages
but if you set aside gameplay then that would mean that the combine have like main battle riffles with somewhere between 64-132 shots in it plus the disintegration grenades
desecrated the original concept 0/10
Actually, wasn't the original concept for what's now known as the AR2 to be a single shot "incendiary rifle", and have the OICW as the primary assault rifle for HL2?

At first I hated because of chunky model with weird origins.
Then I loved because of awesome reload animations. Then I noticed a fresh plug every shot - realized that meant a ton of spent ones on the floor - and became ambivalent about this. Don't get me wrong actually seeing the magazine removed and replaced is great. But I think the original system of 30 shots per plug makes more sense. The whole reason to have an autoloader is to increase the amount of sustained fire that can be carried on the weapon, not have a ton of parts moving at the speed of light. I doubt even Combine lube could make something operate that fast, reliably.
Because SAD and super secret shit;

Danish arctic recon special forces have tactical sweaters, too. And are armed with Glock 20s for the 10mm fuck-you power, and Lee-Enfields, because everything else freezes solid. Also got tactical puppydogs for transport.

What...even FAL's? D:

Yeah well, all the weapons (and vehicles, etc) are designed and manufactured by a totally Alien party, just with human operators (and assailants) in mind. And humans probably played a minor part in designing these weapons as well in "co-operation" with the Combine.
Anyway, going back to AR2's, it still kinda bothers me how people are imagining the way the weapon works in so many different ways: some have the lil' magazine move back and forth with the firing ping, some don't, and the recently posted video made it so that the lil' magazines are just cartridges for each shot.. So, it's conflicting to say the least.
Not to mention Valve's original view model animation for the weapon. I'm not sure exactly how it went, but afaik the cartridge/mag moved WITH the firing pin (which doesn't make any sense?), which I guess is just something that the devs didn't notice / didn't pay attention to, because otherwise the weapon worked just fine.

They should leave the FAL hanging from a tree in the snow with a light drizzle from a hose going overnight

You said, Combine Weapon?
And what does it shoot? Dark energy plasma. And it requires a power source of sorts..
dark-energy bullets...
so bullets
[editline]10th April 2014[/editline]
its also got a big laser scope
im pretty sure its some form of railgun though, the model is incomplete, and was never really meant for gameplay

No, honey, that's the complete model from Ep 2, the static one Alyx comandeers. This is the incomplete, cut-beta one.

well the shots arent hitscan ingame
so some kind of slow moving but super powered energy shots?
The beta sniper rifle is great, it's just an LAR Grizzly Big Boar with a fancy futuristic grip.
